  1. I dinged my prop about two years ago , when the AD came out , and the Scimitar was not yet released , and you had to wait 3 to 4 months for a Hartzell ... I did a little research and found out that the props on the scouts were the same prop , Got one for 5500 from a guy that did an mt conversion.....This is a popular upgrade for the scouts , so there are a lot of these props out there... You will have to send the prop out to get the blades reduced 1 inch ... The scout blades are 7666, while the mooney blades are 7666-2.. This will cost about 500.00 and the prop shop will tag the prop and change the blade Part#s And the best part was I got 500.00 for the spinner... Good luck
  2. This is very common , The collar that holds the stacks into the nose wheel truss is either upside down , or there was a shim left out , If the stack is too long , there is not enough caster to keep the nosewheel from shimmying , This can get real bad to the point of losing steering control of the aircraft , When I converted my donuts from goodyears to lords I had this problem , Flipping the collar so the the half of the collar that is longer to the bolt hole (the hole is off center a few thousandths ) is facing the truss and stack stopped mine from shimmying , and my airplane is a b model , so no shimmy damper either , I couldnt believe this fixed it....
  3. I am trying to put a set of nice leather seats into my m20b... Unfortunately they interfere with my trim wheel...Does anyone know where I can get a trim wheel unit and the tubes(run back to jackscrew) from a c model relatively inexpensive .. Or should I just sell the seats Thanks Alan..
  4. I think the dust gets in because this is a vacuum gyro....Also i think this is the same as a sigma tek 1u445 and will not work with the garmin avionics... Had one and couldnt understand why it wouldnt work w the garmin...Until I spoke to garmin... Replaced it with a Sandel 3308 ...
  5. Had the same problem , we found one of the intake flange bolts came loose and it was sucking air ...Also had a high egt on that cylinder ..
  6. I did my mods all at once , I did the cowl closure ,flap and aileron gap seals , brake rotation ,gear bay liners and wing root cuffs... I got about 10 to 11 mph out of all of them , but the cowl closure is the most bang for the buck , it got about 4 mph... That is the only one I tried separately... I get 140 knots indicated airspeed at 2400 rpm and 24 inches of mercury.. My best speed is about 8500 feet msl at 2400 rpm and about 19 to 20 inches hg and my ground trac is about 151 to 153 knots with about 125 kts indicated airspeed...
  7. I have the inline skytec it is worth every penny I spent , It spins so fast you have to hold the brakes (just kidding) but it is far superior to the old prestolite starters , also if your battery cables are marginal this will do the trick... This problem is usually only figured out after they replace the starter and battery !!! I highly reccomend it ... Reguards Alan
  8. You can upgrade , get the used yokes on ebay , about 1100.00 for a pair ... Make sure you get the yoke shafts with them , as the older yokes have the bolt that goes vertically and the newer ones go horizontally ...
  9. My A&P made me replace them about two years ago on my annual , I have a M20B with manual gear and they were available about two years ago from mooney , about 70 dollars each (ouch)... You do not need to rent the tool to install them... Put the spring in a vise and bend it back and fourth putting quarters in the recesses at 12 and 6 o'clock... after about 40 quarters the springs will be long enough to fit to the belcranks... When you put the gear down all the quarters will fall out into the wing!!!! then its off to the vending machine!!!! Don't laugh.. it works and saves on the tool rental.. Reguards Alan...
