  1. Sounds awfully familiar… https://trueflightaerospace.com/latest-news/ -a-
  2. As the OP you have the ability to delete a thread… It can be found by editing the first post of the thread…. Should have a delete option or title edit option… Use caution deleting threads… People put some good work into threads… they get disappointed when their work gets erased… Best regards, -a- Best regards, -a-
  3. Barber pole seen through a window on the floor… green is good to land. Light bulb to light the barber pole is a 24V bulb in a 12V system to be dim all the time… Often the plastic window is so dirty or etched… some people don’t know it is there…. If you are looking for The green light on the annunciator panel… it gets dimmed so much, in day light it is hard to see… +1 for stickies and FAQs… Best regards, -a-
  4. When you get a leaky fuel cap… you get surprised about how much water gets sent through the leak… might be a quart… Test cup after test cup… and they look kinda good… water doesn’t appear in the bottom of them… The old cup smells like fuel… and is yellow, so the water doesn’t look extra clear… It turns out they are full up with water… Ever spit in the fuel cup… spit tries to sink… unless it is water in the cup! Reminder to always hold the fuel up to a white background… Take it extra serious each time… Water tries to fool us… and sometimes wins… PP thoughts only not a fear monger… Best regards, -a-
  5. wait… You have electric gear…. contact @Alan Fox Or clean the switch… Best regards, -a-
  6. A few times MSers have seen high Si numbers… leading them to find a hole in their intake hose after the filter… a sign dirt is getting in the oil… a bad bearing can be found this way as well… bearings don’t go bad very often… you would want to know as soon as practical if one does… Somebody had a wrist pin get carved off as the pin came loose, leaving aluminum fleck in the oil… Oddly, ground cam lobes, carved wrist pins, and bearing bits… probably show up first in the oil filter…. Bearing bits are small enough and not aluminum and might get visually missed…. The smell of burning oil might get noticed… A spun bearing loses its oil hole alignment starving the surfaces from their ordinary level of oil… the parts will get red hot as they deteriorate… We have seen a few broken pistons and holes through the side of the engines around here… That first year of ownership can be extra tough… Best regards, -a-
  7. Same servo each time? or random? Best regards, -a-
  8. @gevertex’s panel is coming to life… Inviting him to join this discussion…. Best regards, -a-
  9. Old airplane smell… Don’t fall for it… Is usually a continuous drip of fuel collecting under the rug… Every weekend my M20C was talking to me… airing her out took a few minutes… then we would load the plane. The next weekend we would repeat the process… Somebody moved the rug, and exposed the blue stains…! New rug, new seals, new rubber connectors followed… Old plane smell magically went away. Best regards, -a-
  10. Fuel level sensor, and a small rubber hose connector are on the other side of the wall… Lift the rug carefully, blue stains underneath it are the calling card… The fuel runs to the center, under the kid’s feet… in back. (Graphic memory device) the careful part… is the dry air of early spring can cause sparks with carpets… Fixing these are really easy…. And I like the radio stack no longer needed in the usual place… and the spare AI there instead. Being SIC in this plane is a real treat! Best regards, -a-
  11. Next step up from bare minimum… +1 engine monitor… +1 for FF with totalizer… more accurate than good fuel level indicators… Portable stuff… - ADSB in… weather and traffic updates - Ipad and your favorite nav app complete with IFR procedures and a blue dot. You have a long term plan… Don’t get bogged down with a bare minimum plane… BTDT… Best regards, -a-
  12. The only known issue for Tempest fine wires, a couple of years ago… was the center electrode would get away… Tempest changed procedures, solved that issue… Best regards, -a-
  13. +1 for grease getting hard throughout the entire trim system… There is plenty to clean out and re grease if not done in the last decade or two… Access to most of it, is probably from below… Best regards, -a-
  14. Tradition… The Y branch is threaded… a simple threaded plug seals the top…. The plug has a square top to use a wrench on… easily accessed when the radio access panels are removed at annual… Depending on what install you have with the 201 windshield… the access panels probably got left out… and the tube with remote fill capability was added… For it to leak…. It may have gotten overfilled recently… I don’t think the traditional plug was very fluid tight… it may even have a vent hole drilled in it… See if there is any documented way… to know where the fill line is… then drain off the excess… If leaking past the threads… there may be a procedure for using Teflon tape…. Use caution with using Teflon unless it is documented to be OK…. It can end up downstream causing bigger problems… Let’s ask @M20Doc to stop by… Go MS! Best regards, -a-
  15. Do they make a compass with a color screen….? We should ask Garmin Trek. The panel looks fantastic. I would love a copy! Best regards, -a-
  16. Read up… probably something you are missing…. 90s technology and all… Then find Jake… Best regards, -a-
  17. What rate are we able to collect data with the new G EIS? Looks like 1 second seems to be the new standard… Not fast enough to pick up all of the pulses generated by the mechanical fuel pump that is driven by a mechanical finger pushing on the diaphragm… The mechanical pump probably is geared to be a function of rpm… lets see if we can define what normal looks like… can’t tell from one graph… if this is normal or not… Heat, and altitude, are known to cause fuel vapor bubbles… TC’d Mooneys have a procedure to use the electric fuel pump when bubbles are a concern… PP thoughts only, not a mechanic… Best regards, -a-
  18. Welcome aboard OAP! Nice first post. Thanks for sharing the detail… Best regards, -a-
  19. And check the pics… The Pi Plane has received a few upgrades over the decade… -a-
  20. Good luck Jorge… use caution when offering to pay for things that break FARs in public…. Split expenses would probably attract less attention… C,E,F,J… they all feel the same… powerful and fast! There are fine details between them all, but hard to tell from a single flight… Use caution! A single flight in an M20C is very addictive… I can’t break my Mooney habit… Go Mooney! Best regards, -a-
  21. Welcome aboard Spense! I wrote this for you yesterday… Minimum panel today… G430W… WAAS, and ILS… two ways to get to the ground in IMC… Get a plan B to go with that… spare AI and ILS… Learn to use the search function… the easy questions are already answered in deep detail… PP thoughts only not a CFII…. -a-
  22. Somebody listed the whole radio for sale recently… not terribly expensive either… Best regards, -a-
  23. See other thread… from @1980Mooney -a-
  24. There are two aspects of our lighting systems… See, and be seen… Our Whelen guy is always focussed on showing side by side comparisons of how well his lights brighten the runway and taxiway… from his tool cart. Perfect for seeing the runway environment… The thing that makes me most nervous… Being on short final with a school plane getting ready to enter the runway… Or any variation of planes around my non-controlled traffic pattern…. How far out can Deborah see you coming? When you call… Mooney light show, 5 miles east of the field, at 2k’….inbound for rwy28… That would be an interesting video… Let’s help the less experienced pilots with their awareness of our situation… situational awareness for everyone! Best regards, -a-
