Gear compression springs. Two per plane
carusoam replied to hoot777's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
See if @hoot777 is flying by… message came in above… -a- -
Let’s invite @glbtrottr… he may know a few details regarding paint… Best regards, -a-

It’s around here somewhere… for the person with the right search skills…. While we wait for that person to arrive… Our Whelen guy is quite technical, and was the person to write the details down… they probably came direct from Whelen engineering… Soooo… let’s invite him too…. @OSUAV8TER Leaving a particular bulb in place, or a specific resistor needed… put in the right place… My biggest challenge with the annunciator panel… the light is dim during the day with my nav lights on… I like a bright green light to OK my landing, on short final… Best regards, -a-

Great pirep toom! Nice way to handle the problem. Thanks for sharing the details… Should I invite @Rmag for a comment??? Best regards, -a-

Signs that the FAA is getting friendlier by the day… They have always left the door ajar for us… But we have traditionally forgotten how, or were afraid, to squeeze through it… Our interest in squeezing through also depended a lot on whether there was a company around that was supporting our needs… no need to squeeze through a door if the company is around to make parts AT affordable prices and decent deliveries… Holy cow Mooney International had huge… Budgets….. Start a list of parts we are using… that silly air filter on the vac system that had a big price tag related to the part number that was placed over the original manufacturer’s decal…. Had to go… Best regards, -a-

1978 M20J, N6201Y Price dropped to $149,900
carusoam replied to Ross Statham's topic in Aircraft Classifieds
Gents, This is an MSer offering a Mooney up for sale… Let’s try to stay positive about pricing and plane descriptions for other MSers selling their planes… We want people to be comfortable listing their Mooneys for sale here… Most MSers with a plane prefer the higher prices… MSers that haven’t bought their plane yet already know how to negotiate… I love Jimmie G… (we go way back…) But, people have been ‘over’ upgrading their planes since Big G went touch screen and started installing GFC500s in everything… It is very easy to sell a complex panel, with a free plane attached to it… Sure… It could be a market top… Or… we could be waiting for a really long time for the recession to actually happen…. Recessions are nice for buying planes… but nobody has the confidence to buy one then… that’s what drives the price down… Do your due diligence… Then start that conversation with Ross… Let’s see… Beautiful looking M20J… Not many others around for sale… I’d be asking for more pics and log copies… Ross, What’s next for you? Best regards, -a-- 19 replies

JPI sensor is on the mag… picking up an RF frequency… As the RPM drops, that signal probably gets weaker… Probably want to check the sensor mounting to see if it isn’t properly mounted any longer… Check the JPI data to see if any plugs start skipping as well… If the mag is dying, it may have difficulty producing the rpm signal… PP guessing only, no JPI sensor experience in my tool box… Best regards, -a-

That was fun… Most that I know in NJ were already in there… All places @201er made me go… One needed to get its first post. Best regards, -a-

Note for @wombat Same issue with the pic here too. See additional responses above… M20Ks are popular second Mooneys… People don’t usually stumble into Rocket ownership… They are very high on the want to have Mooney list. Tremendous HP to weight ratio and ability to climb into the FLs… Rocket Engineering did a great job with their completeness… excellence in documentation… note: Use extra caution if you are a low time pilot looking to buy your first plane… The environment these planes operate in is above and beyond the usual first time ownership, under 100 hrs, kind of plane… Nothing wrong with the plane… PP thoughts only, not a naysayer… Best regards, -a-

Upgrade Aspen or Wait for Full Garmin
carusoam replied to Pinecone's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Aspens are nice… a full suite of big G is helpful… Dynon is always an option… but no Mooney AP yet? Go Aspen… Big G needs the competition! Best regards, -a- -
There is probably a particular size foot… with their heals on the floor… Their toes are accidentally hitting the brakes… when wearing their favorite work shoes… My Herman Survivors would do this to my size 11 feet… Anyone use a good cowboy boot for Mooney flying? Best regards… -a-

carusoam replied to CChris's topic in General Mooney Talk
AM General..(?) aka Grumman aka mail trucks…. not agriculture… AG -a- -
We have the best Whelen guy around here… Want to ask him? I wrote a nice list of all the lights that are typically found on a long body just the other day… Best regards, -a-

M20K engine cylinder #2 low CHT and strange sound when running
carusoam replied to JC2020's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Looks like an interesting source of iron oxide in the oil analysis… (?) Steem likes to collect under the cap when not allowed to vent… newer continental caps are SS… half baked observation only… not a solid memory at all…. Best regards, -a- -
No gascolator on my 1992 201 MSE, is that normal?

Help identifying air duct for 1982 M20J
carusoam replied to FlyBoyM20J's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Easy to swap new ones in… if one is crumbling… expect many others to be ready… -a- -
Planning for a forever-plane? Finances get distributed over a verrrrry long time… The IO390 is nice because of its roller cam followers…. A nice way to avoid grinding lobes off the cam… an issue that comes up once a year around here… not really common, but too common if your cam sheds a lobe… Inflation calcs are a drag… hopefully the income keeps up… I went factory reman… after the ground struck my plane while I was 20 miles away… planned the upgrade since I was in there already…. Best regards, -a-

Seriously approaching buying a new plane
carusoam replied to mkerian10's topic in General Mooney Talk
MK, expand the above to see the highlighted areas… 1) buying expensive things should be scary… check! This keeps us on our toes, putting in the required work. Extra drive to not make errors… 2) I lived in the middle of nowhere… I wanted to go somewhere else… check! This is why we have Mooneys. 3) Buying a good plane, not the cheapest plane… keeps critical fixes limited to pre-planned annual activities…. But always be prepared for the surprise… engine outs can and will happen… I bought the cheapest M20C, and have been sharing war stories about it for a decade… but, it got me to where I am today… 4) I got a copy of MSFS in 1983… first flight lesson was a decade later… its fun to fly a Mooney in their sim, and be able to point out where the flaws in their model occur… Make steps in the right direction every day… Best regards, -a- -

Go MS! Somebody to look over your shoulder when needed! Best regards, -a- -
Good news… you got the 201 style windshield… very aerodynamic. Bad news… you still have the carb’d O360! Not really bad news… but, I was hoping they put the whole M20J up front for you. Best regards, -a-

Ivan, Do you have the ship’s rudder trim fighting with a new GFC500 rudder yaw damper system? There are discussions of how to best operate the system to keep the two from fighting… Sounds like you have something different going on… just wanted to let you know of this other more common situation…. Best regards, -a-
