  1. I used to fly a Grumman Tiger from Miami to Tampa. It was cheaper and a LOT quicker than driving my truck. Miss that plane!
  2. @TheAv8r, Who did the actual instrument panel?
  3. @kortopates, I will ask the club I am in to make sure they do allow me to take the plane to Catalina. If so, I will let you know and we can schedule something. I used to fly quite often into a short field (2400FT) surrounded by water with no issues at all, BUT that was a while ago. Just got back into flying after a 10 year hiatus. I want to go a few times before I am comfortable on my own.
  4. Hey folks, My wife wants to fly over to Catalina Island. I have never flown over there. Its a quick flight for me. Probably about an hour KBFL? Will be flying a C172. My question is: Is there anything I should know about flying over there? Anything quirky or something I should know before going? I use Foreflight and seems pretty simple and shows no issues, but I would like to know first hand experience just to be sure. Planning on going one of these weekends, probably next Saturday or Sunday for brunch.
  5. Nice. Congrats! I still have a long time to go before I can purchase a Mooney.
  6. Going to try and see if I can rent a plane for that day. Will give an update in a few days.
  7. That is good to know about the E. Seems to be cheaper than the F, by a little. I think she would love to fly. Going to look for some doggy headsets for here. Since it is just me, the wife and our girl, I can probably remove the rear seats and put her bed back there so she can be comfortable. Will have to see what that does to the weight and balance though before removing anything.
  8. Rear seat would basically be for an 80lb German Shepherd.
  9. @201Mooniac hey, thank you for the offer. Will definitely get in touch with you. Pilots and Paws is actually on of the reasons I want to buy an airplane. @carusoam I am 6’ and 210lbs and the wife is 5’2” and 120. I think we should fine, just want to make sure.
  10. Fixed it. Thanks! I am looking more if I fit in it. Honestly, I am sure I will like the way they fly, I just want to make sure I am comfortable inside.
  11. All, I need a ride in a Mooney. Preferably a M20C/E/F. A J would be great, but I am looking into purchasing a C/E/F, so prefer those. Just looking for a quick ride to see if I fit and what they are like. On paper, they are exactly what I need, now I just need to see them physically. I am near L45, KBFL, KTSP. Near Bakersfield and Mojave. Email me at jorge0272@gmail. Thank you!
  12. I had a Grumman Tiger, 1976 AA5B. Great little airplane. Very easy to work on. I loved that little thing, but it is nowhere near the speed of the Mooney. I believe I would see about 125-130KTS at about 10gph on a good day. Very comfortable. Very easy to fly and land. It almost lands itself. I can't compare it to physically flying a Mooney, other than what is on paper. Never been in a Mooney. The Mooney is what I will be purchasing at the end of the year though. Hopefully a M20F?
  13. Didn't make it to the fly in as the weather sucked and unable to rent the plane on Sat. We got snowed in here in Stallion Springs. Hopefully I can make it to the next one.
