  1. "Hi, is this still available?"
  2. I'll be there in Hangar A and so will Jack Stanley. Staying in Appleton. Going to the Saturday Indycar race in Iowa on the way up there.
  3. This happens. When verifying your idle is correct, make sure the engine is warm
  4. They're sending this letter to everyone or almost everyone it seems. Your broker likely has the ability to check with other carriers if the situation warrants. I think Global is probably a good place to be though.
  5. One thing to consider is salvage recovery. If there are a lot of undamaged avionics in a plane insured for $60K, the loss might not be so bad. Or if hail has turned the airplane into a golf ball, the engine core and avionics are still quite valuable. Obviously these favorable ratios go away when we are talking about more expensive airplanes.
  6. We see a good amount of claims for damage that are much less substantial than total losses, and they're costly. Hull coverage is a good deal...
  7. I think it would be a hard case to make that the airport was negligent here unless maybe they had operation control over some doors which would have protected things better if they'd been closed (but sounds like there are no hangar doors). It's probably a difficult task to say the builder of the of the hangars was at fault, too. This is a weather event and is yet another claim event I've seen this past year or so while a plane is properly parked and it falls victim to some outside force.
  8. Just make sure there's no solo period prior to carrying other occupants and you'll be fine. Otherwise, if you still need to fly an additional amount of dual or solo to reach the total hour requirements, get the other CFI approved for those flights.
  9. 1. Once you've met your required transition training from a CFI that meets the insurance company's requirements, you typically can receive instruction from anyone you want to. 2. If a CFI has good experience somewhat relevant to the M20M (say, some Acclaim & Ovation time), they might give a specific approval to that CFI. Or they might approve once he goes and flies the aircraft solo for an hour.
  10. Sending you a message
  11. Get the medical done asap. What's your total fixed wing hours?
  12. The biggest thing you need to look at is figure out if the owner's insurance policy will allow for rental. Many policies just allow reimbursement for operating expenses plus a an additional charge equal to the fuel. Your non-owned policy will protect you. But the owner's interests also need to be protected by staying within the limits of his/her insurance policy.
  13. Besides a Mooney Ovation, I'd love a Piper Seneca IV/V. Not ready to pull the trigger on either. But a blip like this keeps the Ovation valuable (great for owners) and the Seneca less so (great buying opportunity).
  14. I'm going to guess a different one...M22
  15. I figured IND parking would be a hassle...was wondering how much overflow there is to the other airports.
  16. At the moment, I'm planning to fly to IND on American and back on Southwest, but I've thought about splitting gas with someone to go up there by GA. Does anyone have any experience with how crowded the parking is at airports near IND for a Saturday arrival? Is it as bad as Super Bowls supposedly are? Some airports for consideration: GPC, 2R2, HFY.
  17. And it was quite a roundabout trip getting out and back! wish we could have connected
  18. Will be in hangar A all week. Booked the brand new Best Western well in advance. I should be open for a dinner or two if anyone is up for it.
  19. Jack and I will be manning the Airspeed Insurance booth at SnF in Hangar A. Unfortunately wife and our 8 month old will be home. Please drop by and visit us if you’re in attendance. Ask for a t-shirt. We are keeping a limited amount in hiding. Here’s a pic of the 8 mo old for fun.

  20. I've been getting a bunch of Mooney parts & avionics emails like this.
  21. It would be helpful to know some specifics, but I like some of the benefits of having physical damage coverage...even if I could afford to replace the plane after a total loss.
  22. Yes. 252 upgraded to Encore. Sorely miss it...
  23. They don't look at it that deep
  24. We can get specific approvals if they've flown similar models. I had a bunch of C, F, and J hours but needed to give training in an M20E. The insurance company just made me go fly solo for an hour prior to giving training.
