  1. Owner Produced Parts is always an option. The amount of owner "involvement" can be surprisingly little.
  2. Then they put a forum on the Mooney web site, and it dwindled rapidly from little to nothing.
  3. I share a box hangar, and just point my tail into the corner where some rooms have been built. So I get the "short" side of the hangar!
  4. Winds at the ground weren't bad, takeoff and landings were good. But Sunday from central AL to central NC and back, I had 20-25° wind correction in cruise for almost 3 hours each way--up at 7500, back between 3000-4500. I remember one short flight where I looked out the passenger side window to see where we were going, but to keep a minimum 20° wind correction angle for 3 hours over 4 states was just surprising. Smooth but surprising . . . .
  5. I always thought the Encore's grass problem was nose wheel weight, not lower gear doors. But one was never in my budget, so I could be mistaken. My annual beach trip is to a 3500' grass strip, obstructed and displaced when landing towards the nearby water (14?). Not sure I'd take a loaded Encorenin and out, even though there's no fuel so no gross departures.
  6. I've long thought that the Encore is the ultimate Mooney, but you gotta be careful where you go with it--my C will easily go in and out of places that an Encore won't. Plus the Encore isn't much of a grass fielder. It's all in the compromise--which functions are important to you, and how many AMUs are available? The final answer will be different for most of us.
  7. I'm just getting older . . . . My wife helps push the plane when she flies with me, less than 20% of my flights.
  8. I'm at the point that I'm starting to understand this!
  9. That looks pretty nice! The important questions are: What are you selling them for? How much does it weigh? Where are you? (for pickup or shipping costs) Thanks!
  10. Yep, the NORSEE rules to promote GA Safety apparently don't apply for the single largest contributor to flight safety, the auto pilot . . . . And they wonder why we call them "Feds AGAINST Aviation"!!
  11. Looked like it was burning well already. I'm guessing that's why the cockpit and tires were flaming.
  12. The front seats, engine and tires were already buring intensely while they were unrolling their hose. But it was rapidly controlled once they turned on the spigot.
  13. Does your C have wing fuel gauges? I didn't realize we were on the STC list . . . .
  14. Nice photo of the legendary, semi-mythical cumulogranite!! Be careful out there!! All we had this weekend was oppressive haze. Beneath the layer, ground visibility was decent, 8-10 miles, but the ground blurred into the clouds. Was too busy handflying to take a picture of the bad stuff . . . . Sweet Home was nice, but getting hone across Upland SC (even the lower parts, too!) was not. Oh the joys of not being instrument current! But plans for that are in place.
  15. Some people just don't understand that "stuff" is only worth what people will pay to buy it . . . .
  16. Even my 1970 C has two idiot lights for voltage: High Voltage and Low Voltage, right there beside the 6-pack. From the factory
  17. Wow, an E! Can't wait to read how this happened, what battery he had, what was running in the cockpit, etc., etc. Makes me wonder if the battery was still on the firewall like mine, or if it had been relocated to the aft radio space?
  18. Oh, so just like a Mooney?
  19. Mine is powder coated, fits well, and after a while scratches appear then they rust. It's been 10-12 years now, and only the part.that goes into the nose gear is rusty. Before that, the whole thing was rusty, especially where the lower half slid into the upper half for stowing.
  20. Seems my cowl flaps are open ~1.5", give or take. I'll look for pictures from a few years ago.
  21. That's why I fly for ME, and not for work!! Oh, and my Mooney won't stay aloft for 12 hours, no matter what Jonathan Paul did in his E . . . .
  22. The worst winds I've landed my Mooney in ( loaded to gross minus 3 hours' fuel burn) was at KRAP, 50° left of the runway, mid-teens gusting into the mid-20s, as a barely 200-hr pilot with just over 100 Mooney hours. Watching the Diamond trainer land after me made me feel a whole lot better. My biggest fear with that strong left crosswind was the right turn to taxi back to parking . . . . No, we didn't nose over. Most of our books just give a."demonstrated" crosswind rather than a limit. Not sure that's even in mine!
  23. Forgot to check the other day, but it looks to be 1" under the (scratched) powder coating.
  24. This may.not be what you need (no engine monitor), but I took these about 2 hrs into a 3:15 flight, but it's all I have. Note that my cowl flaps are fixed, no adjustments from the factory. Going out this morning: Coming back this evening: Don't get to log 6.7 hours many days!
  25. Mine is coming. Hope yours is able to!
