  1. Or the incentive for us CBs.
  2. I haven't heard anything from Bucko this week about the formation flying clinic this weekend, and it looks like the weather is going to be good, so I assume it is a go. I'm planning on going down Thursday afternoon. Anyone else going Thursday. We might share a ride to the hotel, have dinner or whatever.
  3. No, it is not Merlyn equipped. Thanks Brian, we will check.
  4. When climbing out, the engine began surging. The prop RPM was constant, but the manifold pressure would drop from 40” down to about 35” for a few seconds and then go back up to 40”. It repeated that about every 10-15 seconds. When leveled off and I set it up for cruise, it stopped doing it and all indications were normal. Any ideas
  5. On Mooneyspace, "cheap bastard" is a title of respect
  6. It's a shame. I am already committed for that date.
  7. I am gearing up to host what is becoming an annual event. I am looking at Saturday May 18 unless I find some problem with that date. It will be, get there around 11:00 AM, with lunch at about 12:00 at Delta Charlie's restaurant on the field at Dallas Executive (RBD).
  8. I think the tow bars come from the factory with that slight acute angle. But it is not enough to keep you from busting your rear if you pull on it just wrong.
  9. Take a look in my gallery for the one I built. An awful lot of work for a relatively small problem, but I have never had it slip.
  10. PM sent
  11. If possible, install a "people door" in addition to the big door. At some point, you will find it convenient to go in without opening the big door, due to effort involved, or to conserve heat or cooling.
  12. The best place for a PPI from almost anywhere in Okla is Don Maxwell Aviation in Longview, TX.
  13. John, I started with exactly the same idea. I discovered that the holes in the rails do not extend behind the seat. I then devised the one shown in the pics. Not as elegant as our initial idea, but seems to work well. Oops, I just saw where you intend to drill a new hole.
  14. Brad, Your landing gear fairings look a lot better than the ones I built.
  15. Can you borrow one from someone and make a Plaster of Paris mold. Then make a thin fiberglass replica. It would only be a mild PITA to do, and I could probably be conned into making one, or a few. Does anyone else need one. Making them would not be too bad. Cleaning up afterward, much more so.
  16. Thanks
  17. I have watched this video. I have not yet had an opportunity to try it. Have you (or anyone else here) used this "apparent widening of the runway to time your flare? Did it help?. Did it confirm what you already see? I think all good pilots know when their tires are 6 inches off the pavement, and I don't.
  18. I have become convinced that my inability to land well consistently is my inability to know exactly how high I am. I have flown with a very good CFI who tells me exactly when to flare, and it works better than when I am making the decision. I find myself getting to the correct speed, getting to where I think I am the correct height above the runway, flaring and waiting for it to get to the surface. And often, it doesn't happen when I think it will. I have tried looking down toward the end of the runway, looing at the ground close in front of the plane, and trying to watch out at an angle out the side of the windshield. In each case, sometimes it touches down when I expect it to, sometimes it touches before I expect it to, and sometimes it keeps dropping a second or two longer than I expect.
  19. It is truly amazing how close our designs are, without any collaboration.
  20. Glad you are going again, Jim.
  21. I contacted Phil about the availability of Halos. I truly think he is manufacturing them as quickly as he can. He said he was having trouble finding help in turning them out. There must be a huge demand, such that he has them in stock and almost immediately he is sold out again. Incidentally, I got a set out of that last batch. No special deal. I just watched his site every day and ordered them immediately when they showed up.
  22. Take a look at mine in my gallery. If you are handy, you might consider building your own. I can build them with about $450 in parts and materials. One downside, it is not really portable.
  23. Bart, I know this will be hard to believe, as I probably would not have believed it when I started looking to buy a plane. (I almost died thinking about spending $1000 on a pre-buy, knowing it could not be recouped if I did not buy the plane) But the purchase price is almost insignificant in the ownership picture. An extra $20,000 on the sales price gets lost during the next few years as you have to install stuff, repair stuff, pay insurance, have annual inspections and all the other stuff it takes to fly. I know; anyone who says $20,000 is insignificant must be either rich, stupid or both, but sadly enough, in most cases it is true. Virtually every one of us here appreciates the necessity of not overspending on anything, but be careful of what the cheap plane you find does not have, needs updating, requires repair, etc.
  24. I wish you guys would stop with the new toys that I really ought to have.
  25. Also very interesting to know. I may have to get me one of those small heat guns. They should work much better in tighter spots.
