  1. Hector, have you ever used the old heavy ones enough to believe you get the same oomph out of the lithium. Do you know of any downside, other than the fear of fire. If a couple of other guys chime in with the same experience as you, I am going for it.
  2. Hey, not bad. For one person, at about $2400, the convenience, weight and lack of fuss, makes it sound pretty attractive. For two people, it starts sounding less so. Since I am already set up with an on-board tank and the rig to refill it, I am not too tempted, but if you don't have it already, it sure sounds worth considering. I have owned my 231 for 18 years now, and have yet to go over 18,000, so the ultimate altitude is not really a consideration. I wonder what the guys who routinely fly at 22,000 or so think about all this.
  3. Not wanting to be a naysayer, but did you verify with a pulse oximeter?
  4. As I understand it, the units come with a charger to maintain it. I understand that lithium can out perform lead acid, and in theory, they should do well. But the ones I have seen pictures of have rather small gauge cables, and I wonder if they will really do the job the big ones do. Also the ones I have seen advertised have very short cables, presumably because you can set the unit right up on, or next to, the battery being jumped.
  5. Things are a little slow on MS today, so I hope I will be forgiven for going off topic. I have kept and maintained a jumper battery for some time. One of those that weighs about 20 pounds, with a light, compressor and cables to jump a dead battery. Primarily for my tenant next door, who manages to have her battery die on a frequent basis. But mine died, and fails to take a charge. When looking for a replacement, I find that a bunch of folks sell a very light, lithium battery that is supposed to perform the same function, for very close to the same price. It seems to me to be hard to get enough amperage out of a few ounces of battery to equal a lead acid, 20 pound one. Has anyone actually used one of the lithium variety under roughly the same conditions as the old ones, that can give me opinions of how well they perform.
  6. Don't feel bad David. A whole bunch of us don't know either. We just wait for someone else to ask.
  7. Also the best stuff ever if you have a fuel fitting that is impossible to tighten well (ie. a 90 degree fitting that is still slightly loose and one more 360 degree turn is too far to go.) It will seal and last forever.
  8. It would seem to me that it would be easy for them to say (if it were true); "Maintained an oximeter level of xx% oxygen in a test subject at 18000 feet."
  9. Don't you just hate it when someone interjects reality into dreams.
  10. Incidentally, there is an app called "call confirm" that eliminated all my butt dials. When you place a call, a screen pops up that, in essence, says "do you really want to call this number".
  11. Maybe we just think that anyplace west of Texas doesn't matter. Or maybe that is anyplace but Texas
  12. You guys overthink this. I just climb in, and I'm not sure how I do it.
  13. Sounds like you need a new one. I would still be using a flip phone except for the fact that you can only block a limited number of numbers on a flip phone, and used to get a very large number of them. I bought a cheapish ($160) android smart phone. The learning curve is rough, but I'm getting there.
  14. Why do you need to replace your phone? If you can't make or receive calls, obviously it needs replacement. If you think you need a better camera, or a better way to watch videos, etc., then look for the phone that does those things.
  15. Continentals will do this if the idle mixture is just a little lean. Check by watching your RPM when pulling to idle cutoff. The RPM should rise 50 to 75 RPM before cutting off. If it does not rise, have your A&P or hangar elf richen the mixture 1/2 screw turn at a time until it does.
  16. Don't hesitate on the cataract surgery. I had mine done and am extremely pleased. I thought there was a constant grey haze over my entire area of the world. It is amazing to be able to see blue skies again. I had the PRK shortly thereafter, and my eyesight is great now except for having to use reading glasses.
  17. Have you checked to see if they can redo the LASIK.
  18. PRK a few years ago. My ophthalmologist said it was safer than LASIK. Wish I had done it years ago.
  19. Wow. No hands. I think she may be younger than I am.
  20. The only two things to support yourself getting in or out, are the center windshield post and the strap.
  21. I think I saw it leaving the dealership just as I arrived.
  22. Are you aware that the 99s paint compass roses at airports as one of their projects.
  23. My K has clips and did not require drilling, but they did have to be trimmed to fit. I probably spent 2 1/2 days doing the 4 windows, but I work terribly slowly.
