practice emergency gear extensions
Mooney Dog replied to Christopher Hope, CFI's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
So in any airplane, there really shouldnt be any problem with practicing a gear extension. You'll need to follow the checklists as such provided by the manufactures but i know many a cfi who require any checkout flights, for insurance or clubs, a manual gear extension. It is a absolutely smart idea to also ask to practice this during the annuals of airplanes so you can see the whole system working possibly with mechanic there to answer questions too. Aviation101 on youtube did a small series about mooney's and had a part with manual gear extensions. My only complaint is what appears to be the lack of a checklist. ...Or downgrade to the old johnson bar and never have to worry about the motor failing. -
Thats got to be like, 233!

That a nice upgrade! Did you go single nav/com/gps?

Aircraft purchase tax saving strategies

Bought mine from a guy cleaning out his hanger who's wife said "you have to many airplanes." I think that would count. -

Mooney Dog replied to Jim Peace's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
DOH. Absolutely correct. I was reading the F and J numbers. Thank you for double checking. -

I would go with the least amount of work personally. Doing something not to replace it later sounds like the perfect way to spend more money than one would like. As John said, i would take dual gi275 over the Dynon system, and the gfc500 would be available now for a digital ap, versus waiting for a ap that may not be approved for some time. Thought, if you have a kap150, id just keep using that for now.
-
I had no idea this was a feature and now i must test it.

After years of using dual 430W systems, i thought i would hate touchscreen. Ive somehow come to love it a ton. Yeah turbulence gives me a bit of trouble sometimes, but ive gotten so fast at using the touch systems with a 750/650 that i wouldnt dream of going back now. Though, i would like having a few more dedicated buttons. with flightstream and connext moving my flight plans from ipad to plane has gotten supper easy too.

I have the 375, and its great. All the GPS series from Garmin come with bluetooth connext, which is you have a source of ADSB in feeding to the device, should show it on your ipad as well if connected. If not they should link up the GPS location as well.

Personally I would look at what you want to do with the plane/panel as a whole. Do you want to keep two obs gauges or upgrade to an HSI or glass at all? For my personal plane. Dual G5s, a 375 gps and a 255 nav/com was perfect and set right up for an AP upgrade. Though im a bit of a garmin fanboy so slightly biased. I have not had the chance to play with a 440 or dynon systems, but lots of people seem to like them. As far as DME goes. I dont know anyone who still has a proper DME, other than europe, as a requirement. Most GA in the US uses GPS in lieu of DME, you just have to be aware of slant error vs straight line. I believe AC 90-108 covers this as well.

M20E Vacuum removal question. Bad to remove step?
Mooney Dog replied to Mooney Dog's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I thank you for the offer but i will pass. The removal of the vacuum system was something that i wanted to do in getting an all glass display so it just doesnt make much sense for me to keep the PC system. thank you though. -

You dont wanna pay the price, trust me. Plane is actually 4 miles sound at LVJ, I just work out of HOU most the time. Hobby is supper GA friendly though, and if you havnt taken the time, you should call the museum and tell them you wanna stop by. They will let you park you plane right outside. Go somewhat late (past 9) at night and they'll let you buzz around the pattern a while too. Hmmm okay, color me interested. Aaaaaaaaaand NVM. Oh well. The GFC500 is still a great ap. -

Well howdy neighbor. Does Mark still work at the tower over there? Also i love the string to pull it up afterwards. How about 10k for a 2 axis digital? -

Ill keep you first on my list then, since you're the first to ask. I honestly dont know a whole lot about the PC system, just a very basic it works with the TC to try and keep the wings level type thing. I am assuming this is part of the system? I know the TC on my plane does not have the left/right roll that ive seen on others, but im unsure if that makes a difference. Yep thats the one i was looking at, but after spending the money i have, saving a bit right now and not having a step is worth it. Im tall enough that i dont need the step. Did you remove it completely or just tie it up? -
or have to much bad experience playing flight simulator x.

Handheld VHF Receiver Battery Life
Mooney Dog replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
This being the 6 li-ion AA's or the actual plug and play back? I use the 6 regular AA on mine and have used it quite frequently over the past 6 months with students. Havnt had to change the AA but once. I did have an issue a while back with the battery leaking and eating through the plastic, but that was easily fixed. -

That 1-3 knots of TAS is going to kill me man! -
Been in the process of upgrading and removing/changing a lot of things from the airplane. One of the things I'm eager to remove is the vacuum system. I'm not worried about the PC system as there will be a GFC500 AP going in here soon. The step however is a different matter. Now I am aware there is the electric conversion, which I will do in time, but for right now I plan on just pulling the step up and securing it in that position. I will most likely remove the actual pump as well. Is there any downside, aside from not having that step, in doing this? I personally cant think of any.

So can i come over to your place and shoot some approaches? Ill bring beer.

Sadly i dont think we're going to ever get new GA airports. And as i said, if its no lead, its the airplane noise, or my kid ran onto the runway and almost got hit by a plane, or they're spying on me in my backyard.

congrats man!

Generally its the area and then the airport that get TFRd. Its not really a new thing. Its also not him changing times, its the FAA working the notam system. His dates dont really change. You can you give me the hook up on the stargate program?
