  1. Definitely a great learning experience from some of the best...and Mooney owners are the nicest people. It was great to meet some of the Mooney "Legends". 5 Stars and a BIG thank you to the Maxwell's and all the sponsors.
  2. His assumption was that the insurance company collected $120k, and they expected claims to equal $120k…that looks like a break-even for the insurance company. If the actuaries expect to pay out $120k in claims the insurance company will probably want to charge a bit higher premium. What am I missing?
  3. Disagree. In your model the insurance company assumes their payout will equal the premiums collected. The insurance company is in business to make a profit…not break even.
  4. For comparison - My M20K gives 170-175kts on 10 gallons/hour in the mid to upper teens. On my last trip that I checked the numbers on, the flight was 5.3 hrs. When we topped off it only took 49.3 gallons, so even including the climb we used less than 10gal/hr running LOP. My useful load is 970 lbs, so we can fly with 2 adults, 2 back packs, and full fuel but that is max. I do not have de-ice, dual alternators or a vacuum system in my aircraft.
  5. I have a JPI 900 presently, but considering the upgrade to the G3x, should I switch to the Garmin EIS? What advantages or disadvantages to switching? Let’s assume it is cost neutral (I know it’s not) because I am really more interested in performance.
  6. The wife and I both really enjoyed the movie. It was very entertaining.
  7. I was very fortunate that Myrtle’s previous owner was a CFI and he gave me the instruction necessary to meet the insurance requirement as part of the purchase. He was obviously quite familiar with how to properly operate and manage the turbo and the engine as well as best Mooney practices. In hind site I am more thankful than ever that I wasn’t forced to get a CFI with no Mooney experience.
  8. I won’t land Myrtle on less than 3000’. If you are 5-10 knots too fast it uses up runway fast. When the winds are twitchy and you want to carry a few extra knots, 3000’ can get used up quickly.
  9. Safe Glide was one of the selling points that convinced me to go with the GFC 500
  10. I am upgrading my panel this fall to include a 10” and a 7” G3X. My layout will have the widescreen on the pilot side of the radio stack and the narrow screen on the right side of the radio stack. I will have a GTN650 and a GNC 355 in the stack. My G5 and JPI 900 will be in the center just to the left of the radios.
  11. Over by the self-serve gas. It is the first big hangar on the southwest corner
  12. I keep a Class 3…I still want to fly in the flight levels from time to time.
  13. I am acquainted with the owner of the MSC as I am based at KLXT as well. I have not had any work performed by them but I quite frequently see other Mooneys there for service.
  14. We are really looking forward to attending. My wife is really looking forward to the “right seat ready” training.
  15. I fly IFR about 99% of the time. My home base is almost under the KC Bravo and we are always going cross-country. The only exceptions are maintenance flights or something of that nature.
  16. For those experienced with the TSIO-360, how many inches of manifold pressure can you generate when you get up in the flight levels?
  17. I considered the GTN750XI, but I don’t have enough real estate vertically. Presently my stack as - GMA 345 Audio panel GTN650 GNC 355 GPS/com GTX 345 Transponder GFC 500 Autopilot there is no room for the GTN750
  18. I actually agree with you, but I have a Garmin 696 on the co-pilot side, which really just takes up space without being very useful. I figured I would just put the 7” G3X in its spot. At least it would be potentially useful in the event of a primary failure in IMC.
  19. We formalized the new panel equipment for Myrtle and got it on order this week. I know not everyone here is a fan of Team Garmin but seriously they are only 15 minutes from my home airport and my avionics guy was an engineer for them for over 10 years, so they are really a no-brainer for me on a complete panel upgrade. Myrtle is my forever plane (M20K) and this should be everything I will ever need. So this is what I have decided on - GMA 345 Audio Panel GTN 650 - which I already have GNC 355 GPS/Com GTX 345 Transponder G3X Touch 10.6" Landscape PFD/MFD display G3x Touch 7" Portrait PFD/MFD GFC 500 Autopilot I chose to keep my JPI 900 rather than go with the Garmin EIS solution for engine monitoring. I already have a G5 on the panel, and that will stay. There are a few other items for ADSB and SXM Weather, a couple of new LEMO jacks and a couple of USB charging ports, etc etc Thoughts?
  20. Congrats Will !!!!
  21. +1 for Will Wobbe Will was one of the instructors at the MAPA PPP event in Wichita last year. Nothing but good things to say.
  22. I saw my first Mooney in 1979 while I was working on my PPL. The first one I saw was fabric covered with a Johnson bar for the gear. I think that is the "A" with the wooden wing spars??? I absolutely fell in love with the Mooney when AOPA magazine ran a big article on the 201 and 231 but I couldn't afford the $31k price tag on the 231. I bought a Cherokee and it was a great plane but I always wanted a Mooney. I purchased My 1982, M20K, Myrtle a couple of years ago and she is everything I hoped she would be. She is my forever airplane. Will be doing a major avionics and autopilot upgrade this fall. She will be one of the nicest K's in the fleet when the upgrade is finished.
  23. Get the closest one. Your time is worth the difference.
  24. What is the price difference in dollars? Percentages are meaningless without knowing the real cost.
