  1. She’s alive! Shop was able to prime and then start her up today! Shop noted right mag needs timing adjustment but all else came out great. Now, waiting for a good weather day to break her in… -Don
  2. https://lasar.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=418263be1d9c7a7f755f64da3&id=a9c67e4e18&e=0a44abd565 got this email an hour ago…
  3. Shop is close to startup! Here are the expected costs: ~$9800 for 4 new Millennium cylinder kits, piston pins/caps, new cam, DLC lifters, gasket kit, new alternator belt, quick drain(I bought and supplied) ~$2700 for all main and rod bearings, 8 new plungers (lifters), 8 new tappet sockets (plungers), 8 new rod bolts, 8 new rod bolt nuts, 4 new pushrods, 2 new lower engine mount bushings, oil and filter, new spark plug wire, incidentals/shop supplies ~$10,500 labor for annual, remove/reinstall engine ($3250), IRAN engine ($5000), IFR certification ($425), R-N-R electric step, flush oil cooler/lines, running /final engine configurations tax ~$220 Total so far is ~$23,220 for this year’s ‘annual’. Give or take a couple hundred more. Hoping that is it for now but that is an approximate cost based on shops current estimate. Once initial run is completed I’ll know for sure. -Don
  4. SWTA still owns the STC but JD bought the company from the previous owners. They are not making STC kits. Sometimes they can fix/replace items (I had my windshield replaced by them). -Don
  5. My cam also spalled where it rides in the case — no lifters there! -Don
  6. I got that on my phone (mobile) but Wi-Fi is ok here… -Don
  7. True, it took 3 weeks from finding the spalling to IRAN. The engine is going on the plane now. Everything was checked but only what needed was replaced. Cylinders were my idea as I was putting in new cam, DLC lifters, lifter plungers, pushrods as needed, new rod bolts, nuts, gaskets, intake tube hoses, bearings. ~800 hours ago, it was pulled for a gear up - case, crank were certified and line bored. New prop, OH governor, Cam and lifters certified too but that didn’t stop the spalling. The owner @ that timed decided to not overhaul or replace the cylinders - that was the only thing keeping it from being a full overhaul then. Lots done since then. I Didn’t want to wait 5 to 6 months. I know what is in the engine now, and it was running great before the spalling. Seems the right option… Edit: oh, and it has ~2200 hrs since factory rebuild/major, ~4100 hrs since ‘new’ -Don
  8. 3 lobes on the cam spalled (lifters too), and 2 spalled where the cam rides in the case - glad this was caught early. Prior to the cylinder IRAN first time, no metal to speak of. Metal just started getting higher as time went on after that. Just wondering how it spalled the ‘bearing’ surface of the cam… -Don
  9. That baffling LOOKS damn nice too! -Don
  10. Making progress! Have pics of the cam, this one spalled where the cam rides the case! There has to be something about grinding these particular cams after initial use vs the older 60’s versions. Why would a cam spall where it rides in the case? No lifter to cause this and no evidence of corrosion on the cam… DLC won’t fix that! Hum….
  11. 6 months vs ~3 weeks — I had most of the parts, thankfully. So much is new/replaced or recently overhauled- I’m very hopeful on her running well and breaking in quickly. While not a full overhaul, the repair is about as close as one can get… Prop and governor was IRAN’d/resealed by Byams too a couple of years back.… Mag overhauled, SureFly, exhaust overhauled by Dawley before he retired. Fingers crossed. -Don
  12. And have lots of Monopoly Money ;o) -Don
  13. There’s gonna be a hanging Monday Morning…
  14. Yep, posting etc was not working… -Don
  15. Had to order shorter pushrods. Seems new cam and the Millennium Cylinders may cause tighter tolerances. Seems the shop is getting closer! -Don
  16. @cliffy I do have those numbers— just making sure yours were defaults. Thanks! -Don
  17. @cliffy, would you care to share you’re setup settings? Thanks… -Don
  18. Develop a ‘Mooney’ Johnson bar arm ;o)
  19. Get the gear up before 80 mph or do the mooney dip. Down @ or below 120 mph. Mine works pretty well. Also a bent jbar can make it hard work or something caught in the bar area. Down block can also be egg shaped…
  20. Mine did, plus the 2 around them. The cam and lifters were ground and certified last IRAN. This time, new cam and DLC lifters, etc on this new IRAN… -Don
  21. Those -005s are like hen’s teeth to find… may have to call MSCs to see if they have them… -Don
  22. Heim ends should be all you need to replace. Make note of spacers and washers on the rod ends! top heim is F34-14, bottom is F34-14N in the parts book. Very likely right and left had threads.. item 29 and 32 in pics -Don
  23. No corrosion found. We checked the cam and lifters last year and nothing on them. My guess is these 4 just failed recently. I fly pretty much weekly, change the oils ~4 times a year so it’s not from that. -Don
