  1. If you've ever considered the 201 windshield now would be the time to do it. Look forward to seeing the progress
  2. I't depend on the amount of damage. @Yetti, I have successfully used dry ice to remove hail damage before. Wasn't on aluminum b though. Rubbed the dry ice in a circular motion from outside to the middle of the dent and the metal drew up with the cold
  3. I'm close enough to be fairly close to Jewell so whenever mine needs an overhaul that's where it'll be going
  4. Would he or another mechanic that he would refer you to be willing to sign off on you doing the repair before getting it to him for annual? I'm fortunate that my mechanic is on the field I am and also allows me to do pretty much all of my own work.
  5. I actually inquired about this via their website and one of their guys called me. They said they are still working on it and anticipate approval by the end of the year.
  6. Parker can get you get set up but just be warned that with everything going on in the past year and the trend for insurance that it is on the rise a little bit.
  7. If you can't find one then you should be able to order you some white peel and stick vinyl or sticker stock and you can print it via an inkjet printer.
  8. You should use your laser to burn your tail number where the mooney emblem goes on your yokes and either just above it put "Captain and Copilot" respectively I see you even wrapped the door handle. Nice touch. My thoughts for an interior would be to have the main color and then do a different inset color with either perforated or suede and then carry that theme through the door panels and then use a suede to cover some of the plastic interior pieces for a little added pop
  9. I foresee many trips to Knoxville in the future If I end up with the e model I'm eyeing I think we may need to talk...lol. I love the double stitched diamond pattern in your seats.
  10. ^^^^What he said. Seriously look at the PMA450b. You can cut down on install costs if you have an A&P willing to work with you. I just installed a 430w, G5 hsi, amx240, and axp340 in our aircraft. Went through @Jesse Saint and he hooked me up with the hardware, direct wire harnesses and killer support.
  11. That’s pretty slick. What was your process? I’m sure some of the CBs out here wouldn’t mind doing it themselves and would love to see or hear about how you accomplished this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. So just a cookie for you to consider. It is not available yet but I inquired with Dynon as to how the certification process for their autopilots on the Mooneys were coming and was told they had a few aircraft already in the process for the certification and that we should be seeing something late this year. Obviously that has to be taken with a grain of salt a la TruTrak but they do already have certifications for cessnas and bonanzas and it's certified to fly coupled approaches. I asked about gps failure and was told that the autopilot would still fly a course, alt, and such if the gps signal was lost.
  13. I wouldn't solder that. You can see that the wire has been arcing across and burnt some of the conductor away. Hopefully there is enough wire for you to cut the end off, strip back the necessary amount and reattach if possible. It appears that the screw, flat head, can be removed and should give you access to the internals. Pics of that would be helpful. As far as removing the access panel to troubleshoot that I would not consider that to be an operation that required an A&P but the fix is possibly a different story. I wouldn't say it is a complex system/assembly but every person interprets the FARS just a little differently. Best thing to do is ask your mechanic what he thinks. I'm lucky enough that my mechanic trusts me and my work and I just fill him in on whatever work I'm doing and he may or may not pop his head in the hangar if we're both there at the same time just to see if I need anything. When I'm done I tell him all that I did and he prints me off a shiny new sticker to put in the logbook.
  14. You think it's possible that you may have flubbed an approach and scared the old girl so bad she wet herself? I actually just rebuilt the oleo strut main gears on my Cherokee 180 and when I removed the large orings at the bottom of the strut housing they were worn/deformed so that the portion contacting the polished rod was permanently flat. It amazes me at the simplicity of most of the systems that get and keep us airborne. Like who ever decided "Let's throw an overgrown sewing machine on the front of a beer can and go fly. And, oh yeah, we want it fast too!!!!"
  15. I can echo what's been said above. Get your mechanic to make you a list of things that 1. NEED to be addressed NOW, 2. SHOULD be addressed now, 3. Can be deferred. For a prebuy I would consider groups 1& 2 as items to negotiate with with group 1 that the seller will have to fix before you move forward, or at least negotiate the sale price to get them repaired before you take possession. Group 2 is where your negotiating skills may come in to play. These I would not consider to be airworthiness items YET but if not addressed very soon then they would be or they may be big ticket items to repair/replace/etc. Group 3 would be the nit picky things that don't really effect anything but may drive a perfectionist crazy but this is an old beer can that flies, you can't want it and be a perfectionist at the same time. Kind of our own oxymoronic situation. As far as the cylinder I know there are some owners that will not let potential buyers remove anything more than spark plugs, oil, and filter from an engine. If the owner is willing to let you take the cylinder off to have it checked then by all means do so if you are still interested in the aircraft. Maybe you can start the negotiating already with whatever airworthiness items that your mechanic has said he's found and see if it's even worth yours or your mechanics time to continue moving forward.
  16. This may have already been said already but I'm being lazy and don't want to read all of this just yet. Oil is traded in futures and although it's fluctuations do influence gasoline prices it is not a direct correlation. Of course, if oil is sky high then gasoline will be high as well and vice versa but the price at the pump is tricky. Gas stations are charging at the pump for what they will need to pay for the next load. They have to watch their suppliers and anticipate how much their next load will cost them and and adjust their prices accordingly. If they were behind the curve then they may have to raise prices more drastically than another station does that is staying ahead of it. Now let's talk WTI, West Texas Intermediate, and Brent Crude. The world standard is the Brent Crude and that is used to benchmark for offshore oil and gas work in the United States as well as most other countries and even land work in some of the other countries. WTI is what drives the land work here in the US and that is typically the only ones that suffer when WTI tanks. WTI is also less desirable than Brent which is why it is almost always less than Brent in the markets. Now to 100LL. If smart, they operate just like the gas stations. That being said, a smaller airport that doesn't buy as much fuel will not be able to cash in on the lower prices as often as an airport with higher fuel consumption. My home drome has been right at $3.83 for a few weeks. That coupled with the reduced amount of GA traffic altogether due to the current pandemic may mean that you will never see some of the prices you think you should. That along with the disparity due to region and who knows what it will actually go to. I don't foresee seeing $3.00/gal at my drome at all. It will go up before it ever reaches that point. Paul
  17. While my harnesses were from Approach Fast Stack I do not have their stack. They are point to point harnesses just like what would be made and installed at an avionics shop. Jesse is great to deal with and even responded back via texts or phone calls well after working hours or on weekends.
  18. One of the added benefits of a HSI is that it takes the place of 2 gauges which cleans up space in the panel. That may not be important for some but when you start adding pretty gadgets to your panel the space gets ate up in a hurry. I just installed a G5 HSI in my plane and I love it. Now just to replace the AI as well and dump the vacuum system.
  19. Oh it absolutely needs to be taken seriously and when I'm not at may day job, 28/28 rotation offshore in the oilfield, I am a volunteer firefighter/first responder back home. Unfortunately for those of us that care, the statistics are lying to us. If you look at the pneumonia and influenza deaths since the arrival of Covid-19 they have gone down to virtually zero. How can that be? If someone is "suspected" of having CV-19 then their death is automatically assigned to the CV-19 death stats. In addition, if someone had a condition with a weakened immune system i.e. cancer treatment, prior infection, HIV/AIDS, etc and they contracted or it was suspected that they contracted CV-19 and succumbed to the combination then their death is also being recorded as a CV-19 fatality whereas in the past is has always been attributed to the condition that lead to them getting the tertiary infection.
  20. Just a thought but if you're fairly handy you can do the install yourself. I got direct wire harnesses through Jesse Saint that he got from Approach Fast Stack. I just installed the AXP340 and a 430w along with a new bluetooth audio panel and a G5 HSI
  21. A lot of the response has been because this is something new. We have been desensitized to things like the flu, heart disease, etc and have accepted that as the norm. With Covid-19 being new there is an inherent fear just due to the ignorance of how it responds and what we can expect. As to if this has effected my ownership, not directly. I currently own a Piper Cherokee 180 that I'm trying to sell and purchase a Mooney
  22. I know of a 1964 E model that the guy is asking 36k for it. It actually looks to be in pretty good shape. The old man bought it and had a stroke a couple months later and lost his medical. It's basic IFR with (2) kx155 w/GS but TTAF is 4832 and there's approximately 850smoh.
