  1. Have you looked at the pa-46 with the continental? No need for O2, pretty efficient for what it is and really comfortable for pax
  2. Technically it’s Diamond-like carbon. It makes a surface harder, slicker and more wear resistant. The friction coefficient against polished steel, camshaft lobes, is fantastic. Been used for years on razor blades, gun parts and many other applications
  3. So I went up with the instructor today after not having loggable time in 7 months due to several conflicts and we were just doing pattern work at KSLG. ABOUT 15 minutes in we here a 172 state they were taxiing to the active. We were already abeam the numbers and since they would still need to do their run up we turned base, final, and did a touch-n-go. They took off behind us and we heard them state they were leaving the pattern to the northwest. We did a few more circuits while announcing all movements(departing, crosswind, downwind, base, final). On an approach I saw the 172 doing some lazy spirals northwest of the field at about pattern altitude and pointed it out to the instructor. They continually got closer to the field to the point that at one point I would say they circled over the taxiway. Mind you that they were at pattern altitude. We made sure to stay clear and at one point I left/widened my pattern as to allow for separation. We made several radio calls and verified our radios were working but never got any indication that they heard us when we tried contacting them directly. Unfortunately we didn’t have adsb in with us. I know that radio traffic isn’t required at uncontrolled fields but no one should be circling at pattern altitude in a way that you overlap the pattern or come close enough to cause aircraft in the pattern to deviate to provide separation. I am glad that I had this experience with my instructor and that he never once felt like he needed the controls. I kept a visual on them the entire time and any time I deviated from our normal pattern I vocalized it and told him exactly what I was doing. Don’t be that guy please
  4. @Alan Fox has an E he is currently selling. Low time roller motor
  5. Also not currently approved but in the process is the Dynon unit. I spoke with them the other day and they are anticipating approval for the moneys by end of the year but we all know how that can go.
  6. The SL30 will work with a G5 via rs232
  7. As per the installation manual that was supposed to be set with the airplane leveled on jacks
  8. I think the BT module in the headset is a receiver and not capable of sending a signal out. That being said, my son's tango headset has an app that will record audio so the bose may have something similar.
  9. Well we are currently in the process of selling our first aircraft and my wife is sad because of it. That, my friends, is just one of the reasons why I know I got it right!
  10. As for any airworthiness issues that arise in prebuy, it is pretty common for the current owner to foot those bills unless the aircraft is already discounted accordingly.
  11. Man that sucks. I just spoke with an A&P that came to look at my Cherokee with a client a week ago and she lost her plane today in a tornado. Sad day. On a brighter note, that sir, is what we call a good landing. It doesn't look too terrible. Be glad y'all didn't cartwheel or endo
  12. Annual time is a great time to go through with some electrical contact cleaner and dielectric grease to help keep any moisture out and corrosion at bay
  13. And I think Aspen still has their factory overhauled Pro 1000 units going for just under 5 amu
  14. Any local motor, starter, alternator repair shop should be able to fix it. I just replaced with a plane power unit
  15. The local auto parts store was able to test my alternator and confirm it was bad. From a Piper Cherokee Me: I need you to test my alternator please sir. Parts guy: What's it off of? Me: Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. 1972 Chrysler 400bb
  16. So just a note to consider about your situation. If you get the 830 or any other non certified monitor your primary still technically needs to be functioning properly to be airworthy so long as that instrument is listed in your poh as required.
  17. Maybe not but he definitely has no problems spending other peoples money. Especially on Mooneys
  18. @Oscar Avalle, I imagine the change to the control head is pretty straightforward. The difference between the units is the 40 series is a single axis whereas your 30 and the 50 series are two axis so for the upgrade I’d have to add the pitch servo, bracket, wiring and any other hardware to get up to your level.
  19. So I am looking at a few different Mooneys to step into should we get our Cherokee sold and found one with a S-tec 40 and was curious as to how difficult it is to install the pitch servo to get the second axis? I know the head would have to be upgraded to the 50 configuration or replaced with a 55x or 3100 unit as well. Just trying to weigh my options. If someone has pics of the pitch servo installed on a short or mid body or even the installation manual/data for any of the 2 axis units in a Mooney that I could scout through that’d be greatly appreciated.
  20. That is true but if something is installed via a STC then you are supposed to abide by the installation instructions. If it states in the parts required but not included that you use a 3 amp push pull type circuit breaker and you use a 5 amp someone could bust your bal$$ about it. I say it's for the flux capacitor. Pull the breaker and don't push it in until you reach 88 MPH!!!!!!!
  21. @atrosa, I just received a quote for myself that has yet to complete my ppl for $2,330 for the year with a $40k hull value so it still may be possible. My goal is to finish my PPL and immediately start on my instrument and have it completed before this time next year.
  22. See if they can source some DLC lifters for the rebuild. I know someone said that Jewell used them in theirs and that should pretty much eliminate corrosion/spalling possibility on the lifters themselves.
  23. We have a guy with a mask and a gas powered saw that may have what you're looking for. @Alan Fox you are being summoned
  24. The benefit of Bob's 110k E is that no cost has been spared during maintenance and it really needs NOTHING. Although you should send anything you're serious about for a prebuy I would imagine that with Bob's aircraft that a prebuy is just a formality and the mooniacs around here all know of Bob and the aircraft which in and of itself is a huge bonus. For whatever reason he is selling, some thought they'd never see the day, I have no doubt that Bob would continue to assist whomever bought it.
