  1. Our Cherokee hasn’t had an updated weight and balance since the 70s. After our avionics installation I’m sure she lost a little weight so when I get off work in 4 weeks I plan to fly the plane to a guy at Riverside in Tulsa that is known in our area for weighing and providing a new w&b sheet. 2. No LS pics, sorry but there for a while people would send their harnesses for me to rework for them. On a side note we flew from KGMJ to KTUL to see the runway with all the AA planes parked on it. Vectored only for 36l coming in from the east and was told where to look for traffic and “caution wake turbulence “. Yeah traffic was a dc10 doing touch n gos. Guessing it was military as ADS-B showed up but no tail number and it was a flat grey color. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. It’s just like that with the Mooney logo on it. Was the first thing I noticed when I poked around inside Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. That was his typo. It’s a 64 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. And Mr Hefley just told me his price is now 36k Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Steve, The plan is for me to finish up my PPL and get my instrument rating in this plane and for my son to get his CFI and buy this for a trainer. At that point I’d upgrade and I’ll be looking hard at a Mooney. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. So I was asked where and how I’d been. Some of you may remember that I was looking at Mooneys for my first airplane and actually had an e model lined up that the guy wanted to sell half a share in. Well evidently he would rather the plane not fly. My oldest son, 18, finished up his PPL with 41.5 hours in his logbook and we fell into a Piper Cherokee 180. Low time smoh but has a history of sitting. Picked her up for 18k and immediately dropped another 15k to upgrade some avionics. Did the first annual owner assisted and got out for under $500 so we were stoked. While flying with my CFI to a fly in we lost the alternator so I got some real work experience with that. Ended up going with a Plane Power alternator and changed to their regulator for good measure. So what did that 15k get me? Well I bought a freshly serviced 430w, Avidyne AMX240 bt audio panel, Avidyne AXP340 transponder, and a G5 hsi. I also got direct wire harnesses made by Approach FastStack. All of this was sourced from Jesse Saint at Saint Aviation and I was doing the installation myself. I’ve never tackled anything like this but I have modified vehicle harnesses for LS motor swaps, built hand wired tube guitar amps, etc. What we had in the plane was a kma24, kx155 with gs, tray for at50 and a cdi. The plan was to keep the kx155 for com 2. I made sure to take the time and eliminate unneeded wires from behind the panel and with all the distractions of life it took me a little longer than I anticipated but overall I’m very happy with it. The only issue I had was the G5 not receiving rs232 data. After doing some troubleshooting I finally looked at the wiring diagram and figured out I had the 430 programmed to send that data to the wrong channel. Changed it and it works great. 8. I talked with the guy about the plane that’s at my home drome and he’s looking to get 43k out of his 64 e model. 8xx since major, clean original interior, decent original paint. Avionics are dated but appears to be ifr capable Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Unfortunately he is still ongoing with treatment and said his right hand and arm have reduced strength which doesn’t help with the Johnson bar. Looks to be a pretty decent example to my untrained eye. I wish I was ready to step up. I just self installed a 430w, amx240, axp340, and G5 hsi. The plan is for my son to buy it and at that point I’ll step up and a Mooney is looking better every day. I’ve only ever sat in 1 other m20 and it was an e model as well. I’m not a small guy, 6’ 225#, and I was able to position the pilot seat for me and then crawl in behind it and fit reasonably comfortably. Just hope I can help this guy out and in the meantime maybe even get him back in it for a few laps around the pattern. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I’ve seen a decent M20e at the local drome and finally got to meet the owner today and am trying to help him out as his plane is for sale. After talking with him I found out that he is a commercial pilot with 20,000+ hours, mostly pipeline patrol, and he bought this aircraft a little over a year ago. Within a couple of months of buying the Mooney he had a stroke and lost his medical so now he’s trying to sell it. Unfortunately I do not have privileges to post in the aircraft for sale. Would anyone be willing to help out? What he has is a 1965 E model, 6975U, that is currently located at GMJ in northeastern Oklahoma. 4832 hours in the tach and he said 850 smoh. I have all of his contact info. If I didn’t already have my pa28 I’d be sending it for a prebuy but I digress. Thanks Paul Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. There’s a m20e at my home drome, GMJ, that I think the guy is asking $40k for. Unfortunately it sits uncovered on the ramp for long periods of time. I’d send you a pic of the ad he has posted but the doors are locked Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. @yvesg Just curious but was that portion of the tube replaced or was a tube placed over it and subsequently welded? That hole looks to be really close to the joint Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Supposedly this aircraft has a deposit on it pending annual. I highly suspect that that the annual will have MANY squawks. According to the ad it had a 100 hr inspection in the last half of 2018.
  14. I mean it does have all the 201 speed mods...lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. It’s listed at 30k Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. @Shadrach, Thanks for the pictures. Figured it'd be like that but you never know without asking. This looks more like something for the grim reaper. Calling @Alan Fox
  17. I was perusing the for sale ads and came across one of the too good to be true ads and wondered if anyone may be in the area of this J model to possibly give it a once over, Only if it's not out of the way, if I am able to get the seller to return my calls. It appears to be located at Potomac Airfield in Ft Washington, MD. Evidently it is part of an estate that is being liquidated. The tail number is N201CA and SN 24-0438.
  18. So @wcb already has the dual g5 and cannot replace the TC with another. That is correct as @gsxrpilot has stated. @boydb may still have that option Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. In the turn coordinator position it is a backup to your primary AI. Paul Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. As per the Garmin stc you can replace the TC with the G5. Take a look at the panel layout on page 42 of the below link. If a dual G5 setup is used then you replace the TC and the DG/HSI. http://static.garmin.com/pumac/190-01112-10_18.pdf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I am by no means an expert but I’d say it depends on what your future panel plans may be. If you wanted to do it piece by piece then@gsxrpilot is your authority. For just a new ai you could do a g5, mid continent lifesaver, on up to an aspen. Our resident experts should be awake and mozy on in here shortly Paul Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Do you have an autopilot that derives data from the TC? If not, this may be a good time to upgrade to one of the myriad of electric AI available via AC 91-75. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Future a&p then!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
