Pictures on the hotel wall
Paul_Havelka replied to Paul_Havelka's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
@Parker_Woodrufffortunately it was described as a "quarantine" today and the person overseeing us isn't even staying in the hotel. May venture out tomorrow but yes, if you need insurance or have a question feel free to call me. -
Damn the luck. I think I get to leave Denmark on the 16th of this month

New guy here looking into Mooney ownership.
Paul_Havelka replied to 270win's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
They've been requiring roughly 10-20hrs dual before solo and an additional 5hrs solo before carrying passengers. Once you do find a plane just make sure you have a solid purchase agreement in place before sending it to PPI that was everyone knows what is expected of them when issues arise. Oh yeah, and give @Parker_Woodruff and I a call at Airspeed Insurance -
I'd definitely look at the 252 that's eligible for the upgrades and gather your parts and like @gsxrpilot pilot is doing right now. Took his in for annual as a 252 and will be getting it back essentially an encore. This will be my goal when I am back in the market sometime next year. My even hold out for a rocket.

Well @carusoam, I'm just here for the next couple weeks in "quarantine" so the Trinidad government will allow me entry
-
@tmo Well if you want some flight time you could come pick me up for a flight in Billund, DE...lol

Well if you don't have time in a Mooney, specifically the model you end up purchasing, your insurance will require that you receive some transition training. -
Before it goes for the PPI make sure you have a solid purchase agreement in place that lists the agreed upon price, items responsible by seller(typically ANY airworthiness items), scope of PPI and timeframe, estimated closing date, etc. For insurance we have a few guys around here that can help you with that. The 2 gentlemen at Airspeed Insurance Agency are very familiar with Mooneys. Just contact @Parker_Woodruff or myself and we can see what kind of magic we can try and work for you in the current environment. @carusoam left out his best and most frequently used line in his response. Go Mooney! Fixed that for you bud...lol

I work offshore in the oilfield and am heading to Trinidad for work and due to the borders of Trinidad being closed the drilling contractor and exploration company have to have us quarantine for 2 weeks and then they have a charter flight to get us in to Trinidad. Now the question is where am I in quarantine at? Of all places, Billund, Denmark. Well on the walls of my hotel room are 2 prints that are related to aviation. Just thought it kind of fitting.

Panel adventure - what would you do?
Paul_Havelka replied to FlyingCanuck's topic in General Mooney Talk
The hardware and software are the same whether it is a certified or experimental unit. Essentially you are paying the premium for the STC. If you buy the dual certified unit package you get a single STC, SA01818WI, and permission letter. his is the same STC and permission letter that you get if you purchase a single certified unit. If that letter covers both single and dual units and the hardware and software is no different between them then why should you have to pay a second time for an STC and permission letter you already posses? Obviously this wasn't intentional by big G but I would say this is similar to the situation with the verbiage in the GNX375 STC that essentially lets you replace the entire 6 pack with 2 GNX375 units. Of course, this is all subject to what your IA believes and whether or not they agree with this interpretation. If they do not then it is up to you to be able to articulate why you believe so and to convince them you are right. I led my conversation with that the STC was no different for the single or dual certified unit so why if you pay for it for a single unit why should I have to pay for it a second time when I already have permission and the STC. On that logic they all agreed with me and this was not based solely off of our conversation. Several asked for the STC and did some research of their own and agreed that it may not specifically allow it but it doesn't preclude it either and since there was precedence from big G that you can install 2 units with a single permission letter and STC then there is no difference. -

Paul_Havelka replied to FlyingCanuck's topic in General Mooney Talk
@jetdrivenbefore I sold my pa28 I had spoken with several IAs and the consensus was that I could buy and install a single certified unit and add the second unit being an experimental one. I had already installed the certified hsi and the aircraft was prewired for the AI. After speaking with my IA and a few others just to be safe they agreed with my interpretation of the g5 stc in that if you buy the single certified unit it the stc actually allows for the installation of a single or dual unit so why pay for the stc twice? -
Best speed upgrade for 64 M20 E
Paul_Havelka replied to Pilot boy's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Sell and buy a rocket or missile. Could find a TN setup and have it installed. Not necessarily adding more power but you’d be able to fly higher while maintaining a higher manifold pressure -
Anyone Installed a Turboplus Intercooler?
Paul_Havelka replied to Scott H Poms's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I'd say get with any one of the MSCs, probably Maxwell, and find out from them. -

Paul_Havelka replied to FlyingCanuck's topic in General Mooney Talk
That’s going to be a little tight. I upgraded a pa28 with gns430w, avidyne adsb transponder, avidyne audio panel and a single g5 hsi and that stuff ran me 15k and I did the install -

Should a new pilot buy and learn IFR in a Mooney
Paul_Havelka replied to ewalk2001's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
This is my current plan. Finish up the PPL and jump into a Mooney and get the IR and CPL -
I found this under my carburetor
Paul_Havelka replied to Janat83's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Alternator would have been my guess but you beet me to the fix. Good catch. Now you need to figure out why it came out. I would pull the cowl and start checking all of your fasteners, that require it, for safety wire. -
@Alan Fox may have something for you or @jgarrison at GMax

gsxrpilot talked me into a K252... is this it?
Paul_Havelka replied to SteveC's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
If you want, I could slide on over there and poke around it for you. It’s located about an hour from me and I have to head to Fayetteville within the next week anyway. Also know if a local pilot that would possibly be able to ferry it for you if you wanted to get it to a MSC for a pre buy -
Seriously considering leaving Mooney behind....
Paul_Havelka replied to ragedracer1977's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I guess I'm lucky. My cfi owns a P337 and he charges $40/hr for training. He's actually wanting to sell it so he can get a tail dragger to instruct in -
