  1. I have to agree with PTK the target trend looks really nice. Much better than traffic in map view that ForeFlight uses.
  2. Your sources appear to be very reliable. How’s the ki300 working out for you?
  3. The mfd will not replace your AI in this situation. You can drop the ASI and altimeter but not the AI. If you want to the ea100 can replace your current AI and a cheap used lifesaver electric AI could be used instead. Also you need the mfd1000 with the external battery to drop the ASI / altimeter and I’ve never seen a used one for sale. The beauty of that is many can talk the shop into a G5 with the external battery mfd.
  4. Pilot is in CA but it looks like the plane is in northern WI. I agree with the above. Hire a good instructor and fly the plane back with him.
  5. No reason to add the ACU unless you need it. Not necessary when combining the aspen with a newer gps (430/530 waas or non waas, 440/540, 650/750) or a newer digital AP. The only reason to add the ACU is if you are integrating older equipment in which case you would install and utilize with the evolution 5 during the initial installation.
  6. It will have the RSM (magnetometer) but not the ACU and the HSI is turned off via software.
  7. I enjoyed Chez Pierre on long Island. Back to basics but great food and peaceful. Not the place to go if you want casinos and tons of people.
  8. Faster than the composite? Didn’t realize it was that much of a hit.
  9. High useful load and the ability to jump off the runway with a full load. Ferry pilots at 300-400 lbs over still get 1000 fpm initially. Anyone know if the STC is the same price as the ovation upgrade?
  10. The thin blade will bring back half of the speed lost from TKS. Nothing like climbing at 150kts and 1500 fpm. Curious what the speed difference is between the thin blade and the composite prop?
  11. Installed prices for dual G5’s are in the $8500 range. For the aspen pro 1000 you are in the $9,500 to $10,500 range installed. The evolution 5 is probably costing the dealer ~800-1k less than dual g5’s and will probably be the same cost or less for the install. I could easily see installed cost for the aspen unit being less than the G5’s unless you install them yourself. It would be far less than doing two separate installs of the G5 (AI and later the hsi). Is it worth the extra $2k to buy a evolution 5 vs a single G5? Only you can answer that.
  12. Looks like you might need the ACU option for the aspen interface.
  13. The aspen plays well with all the old stuff. BK 89, 90, gx55, etc. The 80 is light years ahead of those boxes. However, I think it will also work with the G5.
  14. I agree with this. With an impact driver you have very little control over the final torque. I use this Bosch unit (ps21). Small and lightweight and the clutch settings are very repeatable and easy to use.
  15. 100mph is really slow for climbing and low cht’s I do think the air filter provides restriction so a hole that would allow slightly pressurized but warmer air might be too lean with the fixed jet size on climbout.
  16. It needs the screaming eagle upgrade to do the airframe justice and gain the useful load. If I was in a prebuy on this aircraft I’d have @Txbyker ‘s prop on deposit no question about it.
  17. Great looking panel Jim! FF will work great with the two way communication but not the updates. For just one item to update I’d suggest just using the SD cards. Without flight charts the updates take less than a min to download and program the cards, much faster than my 430w cards.
  18. Trutrak I think is one of the few new AP options that will allow a local IA sign off of the system. Should massively reduce install costs. Very excited!
  19. I talked with Rick a week ago at length about this plane. Was planning on flying to see it the next day but decided not to. Basically sounded like almost no money was put into the plane over the past decade.
  20. ForeFlight app will not allow the AHRS on a phone size display. Wished they would bring that back.
  21. Do you have a vacuum pump or are you using the ram air retrofit kit?
  22. That’s the part that bothers me. I don’t like half finished projects lying around. No disrespect to the OP because he was very upfront with information but why not put some of it back together (besides the tanks)?
  23. Just become an internet A&P like the rest of us. Alan recently nominated me to the position of chief aircraft appraiser and supervisor so anything can happen.
  24. For my plane I do feel it’s necessary. It would be impossible to check the heat exchanger portion of the exhaust without doing so. It also helped to identify a broken oil cooler flange last year. Overall it adds about 2 hours to the annual and well worth it in my case.
  25. It’s a pain to take off the lower cowling but my guess is they failed to do that the past couple of times.
