Help. .Need voltage regulator for Beast.
MIm20c replied to Amelia's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Glad you made it home safe and sound. I thought the VR was internal to the alternator on the io-550? -
The past year has been busy getting used to the new plane. However, I’d like to get back into competitive shooting this fall. I’m aware of the TSA procedures for commercial airfare but I can’t say I’ve ever seen gun cases toted into the FBO’s I have frequented. Mainly looking at precision long rifle and USPSA matches (think large heavy rifles or lots of ammunition). Obviously planning on locking the cases and storing the ammo in a different case. Anyone else utilizing their plane for this? Tricks to keep everyone else happy?

Weekend commercial pilot courses

I recently got my HP endorsement in an old 182. It took me awhile to get used to it (half of the flight). I’m pretty sure I could fly my Mooney more precisely. What would be the advantage of using a rental 172? I have not looked at the required maneuvers yet. -
RAJAY Turbos And Compatible Props

Weight is an issue especially on a short body. They do/did adjust the stops according to my stc and log book. I’d have to look to see the exact changes. -
A 20 year old 1300-1800 hour engine would be valued the same by me. The overhaul will cost 50k by the time you add all the accessories, exhaust, mounts, etc. As a buyer I’d think another 5-7 years would be a safe bet. For value I think the educated buyer will think: MSC with open pocketbook- big plus g500 with gad43 getting rid of the 256- big plus TKS- plus for many buyers a good AP- plus top prop installed - plus mortiz engine gauges - minus 310 stc? -plus if installed Nice looking plane, I hope you find what you’re looking for.

Mx20’s were plagued with screen problems. I’m sure the 200 is a better unit but if it was me I’d take the 3-4 k and upgrade your used 650 with a used 750. Install should be cheaper than adding a Garmin 200 screen as it’s plug and play minus a rack change.

Amazed you could put them in without sliding down from the top. Looks nice! -

CURTIS DRAIN VALVE CCA-2800 -
Tom it was great talking with you at Sun and Fun. Thanks for all the hard work. Is the J system a manual wastegate or automatic system?

I’ve been looking at the lance, should be able to match C speeds burning 13-15 gallons?

I agree about headwinds being more common but I think many are optimistic about the TAS of their aircraft.

MIm20c replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
You might just want to buy a new Curtis or similar drain valve. They are only $20-25. At the very least I’d check the oring to see if it looks damaged or aged. -
I think it’s a 4-8 off memory.

I really wished I could write off a new Pilatus to give me that wonderful feeling that the government did not get their greedy hands on my money every flight of the year. Oh well maybe in a couple decades when I hit the powerball and the gov increases spending 10 fold.

Got my renewal insurance quote today...
MIm20c replied to ragedracer1977's topic in General Mooney Talk
You must have requested the smooth? I would be surprised that they gave you that rate as a low time pilot. I’d check the policy again. If true that’s a great rate and it looks like the extra 50 hrs and IR could have saved me another $500. -

MIm20c replied to ragedracer1977's topic in General Mooney Talk
Only thing available for me within reason is the common 1M/100k policy. Don’t think many underwriters are doing smooth policies for low time pilots. I still need to check on the info I received on this forum that the 100k limit is only for passengers inside the plane. -

I can confirm your rates as I’m in the exact same bracket. Had Starr last year for the same amount, was a 80ish hr pilot (from almost 15 years ago), and I’m currently renewing with Global. Only difference is weather, family, and work got in the way the past four months and I’m just short of my instrument and less than 150 hrs added this year. The cost for my laziness? An extra $200 it looks like. I’m concerned for others trying to get a first time policy like we did. Starr was the only underwriter that was covering newer pilots and they also bumped my renewal up to $2100 ish. Guess I’m glad I got “in” when I did but fear others with my history will be spending another 1 amu to get in the game. -
Yep, questions or just doing a poll?

Fuel drain leaking UPDATED 5/10/18
MIm20c replied to Dream to fly's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
JPI CS is not ideal... If you used 2 sensors it would not work with the JPI. As the fuel burns off the totalizator would read correctly but the wing level would not change. This would give you a mismatch error on every flight. The error might occur with 4 older sensors but would definitely cause problems with 2 if your plane has more than 50 gal capacity (longer period where the fuel shows full). -
I know all forms of mistakes can happen but the only claims that bother me are tow bar strikes or similar on high time engines / impossible to sell units. I would never look at monetary issues when peoples (or dogs) lives are on the line.

@Marauder is suggesting the best way. You could also use the current sensors and run the resistance lines in series like the install manual specifies. Taking a pair of sensors out because the install might be slightly hard seems like something the PO would do, not the do it right attitude you’ve had. Keep up the good work, it’s going to be one sorted out aircraft when you get done. -
I agree that the G5 is definitely the way to go. I’d be tempted to just buy the single HSI and run the wires for the future AI install. With your AP being driven by the TC you have an extra margin of safety against a vac or AI failure. You will really like the gpss!

On the flip side we left Sunday morning and had 205-230 kts all the way home. Winds are great on the backward tail side. I did find water stations to be lacking at the show.

This is correct. I was misunderstanding the info leaked a couple weeks ago. The cdi info on the pfd is the same exact presentation as the pfd1000 pro and the Garmin txi pfd displays. None of the current glass uses vertical info on the hsi page.
