  1. The first plane, M20G, I had a scheduled for a PPI, the owners son landed short doing power off 180s with a CFI, collapsed the gear - I walked away. No money spent. Then I had a PPI done on a M20F, the A&P that did the inspection said in his opinion it was not airworthy - I walked away. $1200 - Money well spent. The second M20F was less than a month out of a DMax annual, the owner flew it from Texas to NW Florida just so I could look at it. I did not get a PPI - Spent $60 AMU and counting. But no issues that a PPI would have caught. I am happy with the money spent. My answer is - It depends on the owner, the buyer and the airplane. Like many things in life there is no definite answer.
  2. VW used to have swamp coolers for their cars, window mount. Not sure what the IAS loss would be, but probably not worth it.
  3. Yeah, I guess I should have mentioned that the guys that work at the FBO are very friendly. The fuel is self/assisted service. If they are around they will come out, marshal, chock, ground and even pump the fuel after you swipe your card. Or you can do it yourself. If you need a rental car, you would need to use Enterprise they are based out of Crestview, but will deliver the car. Yep, that's where I am at.
  4. Don't plan on using Destin unless you are upgrading to a G5. (Gulfstream not Garmin). Defuniak Springs or Milton are really the only two in the area. You have to define reasonable as for hangar rates. I use Defuniak, new T-hangar ($275+tax), usually the cheapest fuel in the area, on site maintenance and avionics shop (Monarch) The DOM worked at Destin when they had a MSC. Milton has a couple of flight schools so the airspace is busier, they have more hangars. There is a waiting list for their hangars. Even longer for our sized T-hangars, but they will are more than happy to rent you a large hangar (at a premium) in order to get on the smaller size list. Their fuel is usually very close to Defuniak's in price. Depending on where you live one field might be more convenient than the other. If you live in Destin proper, Defuniak will probably be closer, if you choose Navarre then Milton is the answer.
  5. "You know the Finger" "Yes I know the finger, Goose" "I'm sorry, I hate it when it does that"
  6. You can see where mine are in this photo. They were there when I bought the plane, they get bumped a bit, especially with my daughter and dog in the back. If I were to do them over I would put them in the leading edge of the molded arm rests.
  7. That is true, however he never landed on one, nor was he in a 4G inverted dive with a Mig 28.
  8. They took off and landed on a boat....that was a Navy movie about boys wearing dog tags and playing volleyball.
  9. I was thinking something along these lines for mine.
  10. Left over from the last time the filter was replaced?
  11. I will have mine in Montana just as soon as I get time off for good behavior, just a little over three years left in my sentence.
  12. http://www.cabincreekbb.com/news/chet-taking-off-in-the-m20g-mooney-in-marion-mt-at-cabin-creek-landing-airstrip/ Here are a couple of videos of that G flying out of the owners B&B.
  13. You are thinking of W100 Plus
  14. I am going to say it before everyone else does. Don Maxwell in Longview TX is not far by Mooney and the foremost expert in all things Mooney. He would be able to pick up on "repairs" that other may not.
  15. Ron, There is "hopefully" going to be a back up clinic 15 July at KHKY (Hickory NC). I am deployed through the beginning of July so there were no opportunities and the east coast guys are kind enough to agree to another date.

  17. Paul, It is a great product, thanks for taking this on.
  18. My father was an instructor for JAL when I was born and then transitioned to the FAA. I was in and out of planes from the time I was an infant. Actually planes is the general term. I have many hours in hot air balloons, some before I was tall enough to see over the padding on the basket. I was lucky to get to tag along in many types to include King Airs, Gliders, helos and different SE GA. I officially started flying as a teenager and earned my PPL the month after I graduated from High School.
  19. Mine is listed below my avatar. Feel free to add me to the map. NW Florida - 54J
  20. Even when VFR, I dial up an approach to the runway I anticipate using. Makes it easy to verify you are going to the correct one.
