  1. Don't worry guys, I will be taking Eagle Driver up this weekend. Although my F is modest compared to Bob's machine. Planning on running up to 15J, Cook Co. in Adel GA for their fly-in and lunch http://www.socialflight.com/event-details.php?eventId=168384 It will be about an hour each way so hopefully a 2.0 will push him firmly to Mooney.
  2. Tom, I am in the need for one switch to replace my pitot heat. it shuts off after a minute or so. I need to check the amps on it.
  3. Mine is through AOPA as the broker and Star as the underwriter. Mine dropped from $1180 to $830. When they asked for this years hours update I had only logged 36 hours in my plane, up from zero. I now have 77 as my policy is set to take affect, but that difference in hours was not enough to make a difference.
  4. What? I use my stratus w/ iPad in my own plane with 330ES and in work aircraft that are not ADSB out, I receive the same wx and traffic in both planes.
  5. 100 miles visibility in the west is not uncommon, Over Thanksgiving flying in Montana I was able to see the mountain that was just beyond my destination, approximately 200 nm away. On the same trip I was able to call Alliance KS (KAIA) in sight at 46 nm. At that distance I could actually see all three runways. Here in Florida I am lucky to be visual with my home field at 12 nm.
  6. Completed our Thanksgiving trip from Florida to Montana and back today. We flew 3140 NM in 25.6 hours of flight time. I burned 249 gal of fuel for a 9.7 gal/hr average. 54J-KPBF-KHUT-KAIA-1S3-KHLN (1585 NM) and KHLN-KAIA-KHUT-KPBF-54J (1555 NM) As always seems to be the case, we had headwinds going both directions so ended with a 122kt/GS average.
  7. I was lucky, although mine is a '75 it has the '76 single back windows.
  8. Ha, I guess it does look like a soap dish holder in the picture. It is actually my Stratus 2 attached to the roof with Velcro. It works great, good GPS reception and is never in the sun so overheating is not an issue.
  9. Thanksgiving flight with 3 of my nieces. For the two in the back it was their first GA flight. I followed this flight up with a flight with my 72 year old father who is a retired pilot and was also my first CFI.

    Intro

    Welcome to MS
  11. Yeah, I was responding to Bob's comment about refueling altitudes and Mooney's. So yes, that is high altitude for a Mooney, hence not a factor. Also, as a military pilot (TAC-A) I have a pretty good idea where the different platforms prefer to operate within the airspace.
  12. Bob, That depends on the aircraft being refueled. C-130s are refueled lower and generally in a dive so the Herk is fast enough for the tanker. Additionally, if it is helos being refueled it will be low altitude. The fighters will be higher since they are much more efficient at high altitudes.
  13. overhead vent drain hose
  14. Mil aircraft will likely only show up on ADS-B if the ATC radar injects the track into the system. They use a different transponder that allows codes to be set for Mode 1, 2, 3, and 4 to include encryption.
  15. Cool, now do some research and find out just how many F-16Ds the USAF has in its inventory. Once you have found that small number find out how many A-10s, F-22s and F-35 have two seats. To save you time the number is ZERO. There were two A-10s with 2 seats one crashed the second is in a museum. Sure simulators work, but that is unrealistic to expect every pilot in the military to only train IFR procedures in them due to an accident.
  16. So my motorhome ended up in the shop just prior to the weekend drastically changing our Thanksgiving plans. So instead of driving from Florida to Branson, Missouri, we packed up the Mooney and Flew to Montana to see both sets of parents. 1360 miles as planned, 11.5 hours in the air, day one we had 44 kts of head wind during parts of the trip, averaged about 22 kts head wind for the entire trip. We did it over two days stopping in Kansas to visit friends. The pictures are of Devils Tower in NE Wyoming and of my Father-in-laws farm on the edge of the Yellowstone River in SE Montana.
  17. You must be joking. So where do you suggest the Air Force put this safety pilot in a single seat fighter? Maybe strap him to the missile rail with a pair of binoculars and a hand held radio? Maybe it would be better that these pilots are unable to operate in IMC. I am sure the military can reschedule all air campaigns to align with VMC conditions. Accidents happen, yes almost all could have been avoided, that is why the NTSB releases reports, so that we can learn from the mistakes of others and hopefully not repeat these same mistakes.
  18. I originally got quotes from AOPA and AVEMCO. AVEMCO was 2X the price of AOPA approx., $2500. AOPA came back at $1100 last year and $850 this year.
  19. I am going through AOPA, granted this is my first renewal, however I saw a 23% decrease, down $250. I'll take it.
  20. Here is my very late 1975 M20F (December 75) only two windows, fixed step and throttle quadrant.
  21. I have one on mine, but it is a F so the battery is in the back and located immediately behind the access door. I realized I do not have a good picture, but included what I could find.
  22. Where do you find 100W bulbs? Didn't those get phased out circa 2013?
  23. I know a little something about those spark plugs, they are currently help hold down the shelves in my hangar but will eventually end up in my plane. I need to look into the tempest filter, I use Champion filters right now, but only because that is what D-Max had put on the plane prior to my purchasing it.
  24. It's not $55k but seems like it might be a good choice
