Looking at Mooneys (M20E particularly)
MyNameIsNobody replied to andymccann's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
NOPE. Hydraulic flaps are simple and effective. Scissor/speed brakes. NOT NECESSARY AT ALL in a M20E. Vintage systems in a Mooney if maintained and functioning (as they were designed-50 years will require some replacement of gaskets) is a beautiful thing that is NOT improved upon with Electric assist.- 66 replies

Today is a "Weird" Mooneyspace day. What are you talking about regarding an E Model being "unpleasantly difficult to load within the envelope"? I am not buying that at ALL. Who would buy a Mooney and then not fly fast across country? I don't understand the 9GPH settings? Why not fly 5LOP, about 9.5-10GPH depending on altitude and GET THERE ALREADY? Who would think of decending with the gear down in a Mooney? Funny and weird. Keep power in and pitch for 500. Lessen pitch if getting up to 180 indicated. Get back what you lost in climb....Go fast. That is why you buy a Mooney...Speed and efficiency to get speed. You putt putters make me laugh. Go farther faster...or Putt Putt. I would DEFINITELY take Johnson Bar in a J if it was possible to have it. If you are to weak to properly work a J-Bar you should not be flying. If adjusted properly and done properly raising gear is a non-event. It does require not putting $%^& under it and looking for $%^&. Not to difficult.- 66 replies

Manual gear IS BETTER because it is simple. Not failsafe, but simple.- 66 replies

Congrats. I really like the paint update and the interior of the plane. Somebody loved that bird and made some nice upgrades. You know the engine status so you are buying right and prepared for an overhaul expense sooner rather than later. No surprises are good. Have fun with your "new" bird. I have flown my E model, that was a hanger queen nightmare that was Mis-represented for 17ish glorious years. The E has fit my mission well. If you fly the numbers on landing you will find it docile as a Cherokee. ENJOY! Fly safe. Store tanks full and you will be less likely to "push" fuel levels and be flying a glider.

Man card turn in awaits. When you can't rack a slide on a .45 1911 you are old. I have chosen quietly suffering versus outing myself publicly on all matters of aches, pains, vision, strength and cognitive function. The tactic appears to be working as I only get the occasional double look or grimace from wife, children and friends. The opening of the jars is a real nail biter... Brights and starters on the floor were not better and do show age if you were a user. I can remember stomping ants on the floor in my parents pointy finned caddy while a car approached on the other side of the hill. Army 1/4 ton jeeps in 70's and 80's had floorboard starters. You had to chain the wheel else they disappeared when in the field...NOT GOOD. Remembering floorboard starters makes me sad as my Grand Pa reneged on a 31 Chevy Landau Phaeton coupe Convertible after giving it with the title signed over...Sigh.....

How long have you gone without flying your Mooney?
MyNameIsNobody replied to nels's topic in General Mooney Talk
None to speak of. Turbulence was over 22k in area. IFR east and west of route. -
Hot Springs Arkansas is nice. Flew there for a weekend. The springs are fun.
-
2ppm max taxi, cruise and climb yesterday and today. Nice to know.

I had not flown since annual in Late January. Wife and I flew yesterday and winds were 25 gusting to 35. Had a nice flight, but wind was hammering the yokes while I was pre-flighting...Little pucker, but crabbed it in with only a slight crosswind at destination. Felt good to get up. Love GA and my new memory foam seat pan. New CO monitor showed no more than 2ppm for taxi/climb/cruise. Love that peace of mind too. Flight back today after NICE Badger win was an 8MPH crosswind. Felt benign after yesterday . Looking forward to some spring and summer flying in a no squak bird. -
Really? Laughing....

I often ask myself: "Self, why do some people have to be such dicks"? Self never gives me a good reason.

Did the group buy discount through Amazon. Worked great. Thank you. Had a home unit in baggage area...Not a good solution. This is so small I had a small area not used on right panel. Removed the screw for mount clip and used a piece of Velcro to mount to panel. After reading that other thread this is a nice solution with the lights and alarm. Lights should catch attention. Thanks again for getting the discount and providing the option. The shipment was prompt and free through Amazon.

MY RAYJAY IS HOSING ME
MyNameIsNobody replied to Brian Scranton's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
60 hours of gas there. Ouch. -
It's academic because I doubt this sells for $10k...

Not the same as lottery tickets AT ALL. Also not the same as buying an older C with damage and stripped avionics. You throw out paper vs. having an engine and airframe that definitely HAVE value.

Ten Grand for a 66 E that shows no hanger rash and has a low time engine? Yes please. Spend Twenty grand on the panel and 7 on the tanks and you have a $37 grand commitment. Ten grand for optional "stuff" in engine...Not likely that it is toast in 1.5 years and you have a desirable plane for NOT much investment.

New (lady) member - Considering an M20G

Works for me. Just found it curious. I am not much of a "grouper". Thank you for response Sophie. -

I tried to steer with the yoke (on first taxi) and hit the tail on first rotation (first lesson)... You are killing it. Have fun. Instructors have a self preservation feature installed. -

Hello Sophie. I wish you success in locating "your bird". Having had a horrible experience going through the buying process...I HIGHLY recommend looking toward a members "for sale" plane that has been updated, flown and loved. Brokers are there to move a plane. Curious on why you put (ladY) in your intro? We are all pilots, yes? Our sex doesn't matter regarding buying a plane, does it? There are TONS of threads on mooneyspace to venture through to educate yourself on all things Mooney. If I would have located my co-owner BEFORE entering the process I could have afforded a J. Newer, Roomier, Faster...Better. MORE EXPENSIVE? Maybe. There is a ceiling on vintage Mooney's value. Putting money into avionics on a J is likely money better spent on resale someday. A 201 with split removeable rear seats would be my starting point. -
That was an experiment? The only hypothesis that was proven is that a bunch of opinionated old men with thin skins cry like little bi-otches and get their way. Have fun regergitating the same "stuff" to infinity and beyond...

One man's "jerk" is another man's "body shamer". Fantastic. Stay "classy" everybody...
