  1. DO NOT patch the tube… Be sure that what ever caused the failure is no longer in the tire, use a shop towel waded up and run it all around inside the tire, it will snag on what ever is poking through. The Milton S-446 2 in 1 Valve Core Tool works great, one end is for removing the core and the other (left side pictured) screws on like a cap and bleeds the air off leaving the core in the stem. I rarely pull the core since I got one of these (25~30yrs)
  2. No, mine were held in with (6?)machine screws, after starting the 3rd or 4th screw the holes didn’t line up too well, keeping it stressed until it cracked…the fabricated one had no binding at all
  3. Unfortunately he passed away a few months ago, he was truly a craftsman and did amazing work
  4. I had one that cracked in half….. local sheet metal guy made me one in less than an hour, it fit better than the original. Best part…. No charge, but I ended up taking him to lunch a week or so later
  5. Those scratches are pretty deep (can lead to cracks), replace them, new, used, fabricated..
  6. My E had all new glass installed prior to my purchase, the only benefit to thicker glass on side windows is noise reduction (possibly), a thicker windscreen on the other hand has the added safety in the event of a bird strike. As far as extra effort I don’t think it’s an issue due to the the side windows are installed
  7. Not unless your preflight checklist includes dragging out a creeper
  8. I agree this was a major oversight, you’ve definitely have to put eyes and hands on pretty much everything they may or should have touched at this point. With your “Eagle” vision I doubt this story ends here.
  9. My guess is they got pulled off the job for something else and forgot where they were or someone else finished it up…. What ever happened ain’t good…..Years ago a friend was doing the 1st annual on a brand new C-182 and found a bucking bar in the wing……Crap Occurs
  10. Did they check the brushes? As the brushes wear they can hang up in the holder causing a failure, as the gear motor gets bumped around while removing/handling the brushes free up and the motor starts working again
  11. Congrats to your son
  12. Make one or have it made….
  13. On the Cessna the carpet is pulled every annual and I pull the carpet on the Mooney (installed with snaps) every other annual, both get the carpet power washed at the car wash at least every other year. Down here in S. TX it stays windy and warm/hot most days so the carpet dries within a few hours. Even though I vacuum them out every few weeks I’m amazed at the dirt that comes out when I take them to the car wash.
  14. I have let my currency lapse, I still act as a safety pilot for a couple guys on the field and I shoot an approach now and then from the right seat just to see if I still can…. Plenty of flying can be done VFR, no need to hang it up just because your not current. I fully understand the time and money commitment to stay proficient which is way more than staying current, plus keeping the aircraft certified for IFR.
  15. I’ve helped my IA swing the gear on a few 182’s, my ass puckers every time. @Jpravi8tor if you have no other choice but jack the plane outside where wind can and will knock it off the jacks/cribbage, tie the tail so that it can not weather vane and twist it off the jacks, next kill the lift on the wings and horizontal stab by placing a 2x2 (wrapped) the full length just behind the leading edge followed by another 2x2 halfway between the leading and trailing edges. Tie the wings down as well, ratchet straps are best but be careful not to crank them too tight and bend anything. You would be much better off renting/ borrowing a hangar for the duration of the repairs
  16. Ground runs don’t allow the engine to get up to operating temp which bakes out the moisture/condensation.
  17. This was my solution
  18. Here ya go Mooney Wing Jacks.pdf
  19. I know guys in there 40’s that can’t even read a tape measure, can’t tell you many times I’ve heard something like 4 and 2 lines past the little bigger line……
  20. There are 3, ailerons/flaps, elevator and rudder, and yes they are model specific….there are a few sets floating around here, I would think a MSC would be required to have them but not sure if they would rent them out… Rumor has it that Don Maxwell in North East Texas is the guy to GO to for rigging issues.
  21. And why won’t an IO360 catch fire if flooded? They puke fuel like all the rest
  22. Send old one to McFarlane, they can make one. Just got one in less than 2wks total time McFarlane
  23. You’ll need “Travel Boards” to get really close, then slight tweaks once rigged with the boards. Attempting to guess at rigging will slow your plane down. Remember that the rudder trim will change at different power settings, trim it where you fly
  24. The problem with that is your chance of an induction fire goes way up….. just remember to just keep cranking if a fire occurs and it doesn’t start…
