  1. During my Instr training coming home from an X-country I got into 45 minutes of up and down drafts, called ATC for a block, they gave me 1k above and below, asked them for 2k above and below, once I had the block my work load went WAY down and I just road them out, my CFII said something to the effect of "welcome to flying small airplanes"
  2. This what worked for me, but in a 12 point
  3. I was flying back from Laredo the day before, it was severe clear and we could see the frontal line 100+ miles to the north, strangest looking weather I had ever seen, went east to west as far as we could see at 7500ft
  4. There was one installed when I replaced my discs, left it out (for now), was checked per SB M20-202 and was ok
  5. Not sure but it was mentioned by someone else, I think the hammering was to drive something between the flange on the plate, not trying to beat the plate loose, either way he needs his hammer taken away from him
  6. You do have to flip the tire, we almost always have a x-wind so the right tire outside gets the most wear, the A&P would flip or swap as needed, I would have to look at the logs, but I think they would get 400 or so hours out of the tires on a 172 with a crap load of landings
  7. Directional rotation tires also has to do with the layering, dual compounds are still used on Motorcycles, it was common practice on the trainers to switch the wheel assembly from one side to the other during the 100 hr inspection to get the most wear out of tires
  8. A yelling match generally only raises your blood pressure and does little to solve the problem, the fact that the shop called the customer after the damage says something.
  9. The use of Carb Heat during landing is to prevent Carb Ice, waiting until you need it when low & slow isn't a place you want to be.
  10. Push the PC disconnect and it should be easier
  11. You could always lawnmower it (fill it full of oil) then drain it off, but if the cam and lifters had corrosion it will now have oily corrosion
  12. Yep, just last week there was a J that lost their fuel cap, I had found them a loaner off a Queen Air but they walked the runway and found the original
  13. I have Slicks on a C-172, RH mag is pushing 1400hrs, LH is at 970ish. Both mags had the points and condensers replaced 375hrs ago, RH mag had the distributor block replaced (damaged during maintenance). I also know of a Cherokee 140 with over 2000hrs on his slicks, and he recently replaced the points & condensers...... That's my experience
  14. A hammer?...WOW.....@BillC I would go in and talk to the shop manager and ask how this happened and see how much smoke they try and blow up your butt, stay calm and let them explain what happened, then ask to go look at your aircraft, chances are more than the fuel gauge is damaged, go back the their office before you disclose your an A&P and then take control of the conversation. I would have to get a really really really warm and fuzzy feeling before I would let them do much more.
  15. Is the leak on the top or bottom of the wing? My limited experience with PolyGone (Gel) is letting it sit over night made little difference. I only had the inboard top inspection panels off of each wing to tweak my new fuel sending units. To install the panels I used 2 rods that I threaded on the ends, after applying the sealant the panel was placed in the tank and the rods were ran through a screw hole in the wing and threaded into the corresponding nut plate in the panel and lifted and held in place while my IA started the screws. If your lap joint is on the bottom be sure not seal up the holes at the bottom of the rib (there is an AD). I had read on here that a piece of Formica with a sharpened edge worked best for scraping the sealant, I had the plastic razor blades along with several other things and found the Formica did work the best. You'll end up making several of these prison shank looking tools, I used a 1" putty knife that I narrowed and rounded off, then the edges were rounded and smoothed so it wouldn't scratch or dig into the aluminum to remove the panels. It's not rocket science but it can be messy so don't let the PolyGone get anywhere you don't want it
  16. @SAMFOX, I think @MATTS875 is interested in talking to you about you plane
  17. Be careful, Va (maneuvering speed) is where the structure is happy not the people. 160~180 is well above Va.

It wouldn’t bother me to list one here, chances are it’s going to end up here anyway if listed on another site. If everything is disclosed in the ad there shouldn’t be much to bash it about.
  19. My experience is it’s a bending and melting temps are very close
  20. That's a crap load of TriFlow.......you sure it will work?
  21. I would think none, I replaced my bushing (standard) last year and the play went away
  22. you never know, keep us posted we always comments & questions
  23. and along the hinge
  24. My hat is off to @Fookz92 for saving a bird, but @Raptor05121 did a good job documenting it on 29 pages.....might have to start a poll
  25. Awesome, I like seeing abandoned airplanes back in the air..... Enjoy the fruits of your labor
