I have stopped using the credit card that accumulates miles, I am now on a Capital one card that gives me 2% unlimited back and I buy a LOT on my CC. I can buy a lot of airline tickets. The miles required to use them used to be reasonable and reasonably available. Now they have some dynamic pricing models where you can fly for 20K miles on some days and 80K on other days, same legs. Plus Delta pulled out of my home base so stuck with AA. Need to get my plane fixed......

Another pedantic and meaningless data point. I have been involved in a some owner induced interior redo that has taken too long but I discovered a weeping fuel pickup in the cabin. So I drained the tanks, let them sit, see second sentence and months later I finally get around to putting fuel back in 5 gallons at a time the first 20 gallons no problem, the last 20 I started seeing weeping and maybe what could be defined as a drip....which has since gone away.....hopefully forever..... My thoughts are.....the fuel keeps the sealant pliable thereby preventing leaks......but at the same time my 1 repaired leak was on the bottom and always covered in fuel and I suspect most everybody else has leaks on the bottom as well as that is where the fuel is.

Looking for a Overnight in western WY/MT or Idaho
Mark89114 replied to Yooper Rocketman's topic in General Mooney Talk
I recently, well 2 years ago, bought a place in Afton Wyoming (KAFO) at the airpark. Unfortunately, HOA and work issues have prevented me from building. Small little town, 2000 people, be good for an overnight. Not sure about transportation, last time rental car was onerous. I think if you were an adventurous walker you could get to the hotels in town. I also flew into West Yellowstone, decent airport with little better services. View is fantastic at any of them. I wish I knew the area better. -
ELT Battery (am I getting ripped off?)
Mark89114 replied to TigerMooney's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I feel your pain. I had to replace the battery in my 406 ELT and it was a couple hundred bucks, but it does last for 7 years I think. It was a fairly sophisticated bit of kit, had a circuit board that did some magic, mainly being that after so many minutes of useage it was no longer useable. It was lithium cells you could buy for $30 total but instead I had to buy an expensive battery. I accidentally set mine off and in the process of getting it turned off the NOAA (I think) had already called me asking if I was at the west side of the airport, I answered affirmative, so it does work. Hopefully never need it. -
It is hollow and there are internal passages in the bushings. This pin is relatively straightforward on the grease flow as it would fill the main cavity and then this one. There is a pivot point further "downstream" that in my opinion has a very convoluted grease flow to get to. During the disassembly process everything appeared to be nicely lubricated which I consider a miracle as has a lot of turns. This was the only pivot that was worn badly.

An update....I now consider myself an expert on this. My machinist did some measuring and built a bushing that was sized for the new wear dimension. Took probably 75% of the slop out of it. The existing shaft was worn in an oblong shape, I am guessing due to the loads on it. My mechanic called the factory, Dugosh and no one really had a solution. Basically was told to live with it, but I had some weird vibration that existed. Also did the LASAR STC on the center pivot so that slop is gone. The whole thing has gotten much tighter, haven't flow it yet, but it is on the agenda soon.

It has all been cleaned for the picture session and troubleshooting, everything looked like it was lubed properly.

Well this will be a test of my YouTube and social media skills..... https://youtube.com/shorts/CySduQDJZos?feature=share

I talked to the LASAR folks, the bolt on pin contraption is fundamentally no longer available. Maxwell and Kendrick both referenced the LASAR part as the solution. I suspect the wear is more than a few thousands, will take the mic out this evening. also don't know if out of round yet. The problem is that pin is welded in best I can tell. The manuals and IPC aren't super informative. I would be all for grinding in place, and then putting an oversize bushing in, but I don't think that is available to get any accuracy on roundness on an in place installation. The other thought is to drill it out, tap and run a new pivot in with threads. I read the other thread about accuracy and alignment and I get that but as I understand this nose steering linkage is just a transfer mechanism, hell the arm doesn't even have a bolt on the end, it floats up and down a bit. will try to get some videos this evening.

I have his number. just wanted to try and educate myself a bit. seems to be bit of an odd duck issue.

Occasionally I would get a slight vibration on TO. Got the airplane up on jacks poked around and decided it was worn so purchased the LASAR stc mod for the resized bolt, etc. Upon disassembly found another really loose and worn part that looks like it is going to be really problematic. The problem is the steering horn attachment point, this point is welded on to the main welded structure and does not appear to be replaceable....easily. The pivot point appears to be worn, there is a slight shoulder on it. Not sure what direction to go. My mechanic is going to call dugoush and get their opinion. Any thoughts?

Good luck collecting any money.

1977 M20J Windshield shipping cost & shops
Mark89114 replied to Maxx's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
If you send me dimensions and to/from zip codes I will quote it for you via LTL, which is a disaster in and of itself. We have negotiated up to 93% off published tariffs, how such a big number makes no sense to me, but anyway. I don’t trust package services to deliver anything that can be crushed, also don’t trust LTL either. Shooting from the hip and guessing, that number doesn’t sound terrible. Everything has gotten expensive……you heard it from me first. -
Don't let your airplane sit.....a lesson

This is the airplane you maintained for the doctor in Sarina. -
Don't let your airplane sit.....a lesson
Mark89114 replied to Mark89114's topic in General Mooney Talk
The airplane used to fly 150 hours a year.....but as mentioned owner induced delays were the problem, not supply chain or labor or covid or the current excuse du jour. -
Due to shall we say owner induced delays my mooney has been sitting for 8 months....started right up today but......m Prop seal started to leak One valve cover is leaking bad And fuel is pouring out the back of the high pressure fuel pump......I have video but don't think I can post. Let this be a lesson to fly your airplane more.

Not sure metal type zip tie...what is it?
Mark89114 replied to Mark89114's topic in General Mooney Talk
Thanks for the help everybody. I didn't read the IPC.....only looked at the pictures to identify. So my bad. So we think padded Grip-Lock zip ties is the solution? -
Not sure metal type zip tie...what is it?
Mark89114 replied to Mark89114's topic in General Mooney Talk
Looks like you loop it through and somehow tighten it up. Not knowing what it is problematic. Around the gear tube frame there was a small piece of material so no metal to metal contact. -
Not sure metal type zip tie...what is it?
Mark89114 replied to Mark89114's topic in General Mooney Talk
I think this is 2 of then after removing. The metal has no flex, bends easily and deforms but seems pretty strong. -
Replacing brake lines and the line attached to the main gear has some type of metal roll up thingy that tightens as you twist it. My mechanic has seen them, but he doesn't know what they are called, I looked in the part manual and no help there. I assume they used these instead of zip ties for a particular reason? Can it be replaced with something?

Need input from a plastics guy
Mark89114 replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I make plastic parts but am not going to claim anything except for it is something percolating its way out of the plastic. My friend has a high dollar jaguar and the plastic feel buttons are exactly as you described. He got no recourse from the dealer/manufacturer which I think is absolute BS....guess what car he didn't buy again? He bought a land rover/range rover so I guess he likes to spend money on expensive poorly built british things. -
If you send me a dimensioned file I can cut one or 10 no charge.

I bought the laser during COVID, I have a small division that makes sneezeguards for the food service industry, we leveraged that into making all that plastic false security guards. It was fun while it lasted, but my primary business of tables and chairs for the event business was decimated. Kept us afloat. It is a large bed cutter, 4x8 plus. If anybody has any ideas for flat plastic pieces I am willing to listen.
