I am 29-0243 Ovation. I was just trying to provide some info, which may or may not have been of value.

No advice on the socket issue, but I had to replace mine and the same problem sort of. Details are a little fuzzy so bear with me. The wires were too short and inaccessible so we had to run new wires further downstream in the wing. Now it is coming back to me....the canon plug was failing and is inaccessible, looks like factory hooks it up and then rivet the wing tip in space, we simply moved a new canon plug down further in one of the access holes. I agree seems ridiculous to buy a new light set up for a $15 bulb mechanism.

Just a reminder to check anytime somebody tows our Mooneys. I specifically mention this to line guys and get either a i understand or a blank stare..... The FBO really overworked this somehow. So far they seem to be accepting reaponsibility but now the repair process starts. I am guessing this would have failed anf a much bigger problem.

I literally have no idea what the cost could be for a repair. An EIS is going to cost $15K (I have no idea) but I think that is a fair number. It is where and how you want to spend your dollars. Either way it is going to cost a lot of money.

what is a VOR?

This is the company I talked to only 4+ years ago. He said it is just a rumor that they don't repair them. Your mileage may vary. Mine started magically working again. So never did a follow up. Please let me know how it goes. Kind regards, Mike Paulsen Sales/Customer Service Mgr. extended beach vacations! (silly rant)

Don't question why....it is for the safety of the children. -
Would new paint increase my cruise speed?
Mark89114 replied to mooneyflyfast's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I think it should be about 25 knots, 1 AMU per knot pickup? I suspect any speed increases might be due to the fact that the airplane gets rerigged, maybe better, maybe worse? -
How to address this hangar rash my plane came with
Mark89114 replied to M20 Ogler's topic in General Mooney Talk
Nice repair. Looks good to me. I too also don't use the yellow and red cans as pictured for any type of fuel. That would clearly be dangerous. -
2000 ovation comms/radio/electrical issue
Mark89114 replied to Subternal's topic in General Mooney Talk
I had the same problem, occurred on both PTT and both COM's and even a dave clark portable PTT. I replaced the PTT's, had the intercom unit sent back to PS as they led me to believe it was sticky relay in unit. They went through it and only replaced a few diodes, but they didn't find anything wrong with relays. Problem hasn't occurred again so I legitimately don't know if anything I did intentionally fixed it, but the simple act of removing and resetting it might have been all it needed. -
I like the thread theory, maybe off the oil filter?

My ovation I wouldn't want to change a CB unless on the top row, the others are buried in a sea of wires that you can look at, but would be damn near impossible to gain access. The funny thing is it looks like it has a hinge to allow panel to open, but there is no slack in the wires. I have no idea.

Ok, it isnt a new airplane. Stray dog wandered into the plant and the GF decided "we" needed to keep him. No chip and no postings on the interwebs. My brother has always been clever about his dog names "pending" was his first dog, pending approval, second and current is "caution"...not sure of what. So this one is named Mooney.

All of it...... My friend had his ovation painted by the guy town in Florida, Hawk I think? With new windows, reasonably fancy paint scheme he was out $30K.

I think they are just super duper fussy for some reason....hardly a real answer. Mine leak sometimes, using the real gasket brand, following the instructions, etc. Sometimes they leak and sometimes they don't. The ones that leak, I just tighten up the screws a bit and revisit, if that doesn't work, remove and clean them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I haven't found any rhyme or reason. Mine have been trouble free the last year or so but this posting will probably cause them to start leaking again.

there used to be a guy on here Mooney Doc in Canada out of Kirchener canada I think. name escapes me

Maxwell told me that in flight the engine comes up a bit to make it "fit better". So I don't know if that is meaningful or not, but if it is true and you get this thing all centered on the ground and then fly it, it might be too high? All I know is that mine also doesn't seem to fit 100%. Nobody seems concerned about it and there is enough movement that I can believe Maxwells theory.

As I mentioned, my brakes are still not 100% acceptable. As others have stated here I am going to put a vacuum on the reservoir and let it sit. We tried pushing fluid from calipers up to reservoir, but the air seems to be stuck and I guess has no incentive to move out of the way. And if that doesn't work I am going to leave the vacuum on top and apply fluid pressure through the caliper as well.

I am going to provide some advice that isn't particularly useful. For whatever reason it is a PITA, these people who have flushed their brakes with no problems good for them. I think as long as you flush and don't get air in you are good. The problem gets to be when air gets in, I replaced all of the lines as the exterior lines were quite dry and brittle (somebody who sells lines says every 5 years to replace which is BS, anyway) and i figured why not replace all of them and buy another 20 years of trouble free service. Big mistake. My mechanic who I now recognize isn't that good couldn't get them bled. During the purging process we did get a huge pile of orange snotty material....my brakes never really impressed me from the time I bought the airplane. Because I rebuilt the master cylinders I had access and by changing their position was able to get a lot of additional air out of them. I think the problem comes in the original design, reservoir to pilots MC to copilots MC and then to calipers. I think the bubbles just get transferred back and forth and the near horizontal installation design of the MC allows air to stay trapped in top. Brakes still aren't 100% right, I think the next step I will try is putting a vacuum on reservoir as Shadrach says. I wish I had useful advice and 100% solution for you.

My DIY Interior Seats—Yea or Nay?
Mark89114 replied to William Munney's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Can you elaborate and provide pictures on how you built up the seat cushions? That is next on my never ending project list. -
I should probably buy a spare.....I refuse to pay what they are charging for LED's. My previous plane a C-152 I carried around spare nav and landing lights for nearly 20 years.....didn't use a damn one of them.

I am getting a new 750.....that price seems cheap unfortunately....

I am wondering if we could just make an additional tube type vent that we put in just during fueling to get the extra gallons easier.....hypothetically of course.

Garmin 430 repair rumors - Finally finished??
Mark89114 replied to Mark89114's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
It is my understanding that the only operation that can legally repair these is Garmin as they are the only ones who have the repair/support manuals. Personally I don’t care about that for a screen repair. Found a guy in MN who says the screens can be repaired for $400. Going to give it a try. -
Garmin 430 repair rumors - Finally finished??
Mark89114 replied to Mark89114's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Yeah, that was me complaining about it....... Garmin clearly doesn't want to support these anymore.
