  1. or this Nah, do ADSB and waas and fly it. If everything is working leave it alone. If the KI256 fails look at doing something then. That king radio is still fine. You fly a lot of hard IFR?
  2. we have a good reiff heater and get the engine good and warm, I never go anywhere in the winter overnight so it hasn't been a problem with w100, but I'll probably change to w80 this fall just because. We run camguard as well, no telling if it's doing us any good. We're getting the shell from a wholesaler for something like $72 a case, can't beat that. The guys that bought those little gas generators last winter had the right idea.
  3. the carpet on our right side gets bunched up, this would be an easy fix.
  4. does it cut with scissors or?
  5. Nah, some of us never learn and still keep buying planes.
  6. I reached out to the company in the first post. They have no stcs yet but would be willing to work with me if I had ten airplanes willing to do it. So, what would something like that be worth a gamble on? I suspect it could be fairly inexpensive but I'm waiting to hear.
  7. If you have cash for the plane and a mechanic willing to work with you then go for it. It could end well, it could end badly. Either way you'll learn a lot.
  8. previous owner kept paying ours for 6 or 8 months and it just ran out, so I called siriusXM who can't support it, called WSI who said they can until dec 31. Weird stuff.
  9. I prefer the XM but the adsb is free. the middle grade XM subscription is $54 a month vs I think just under $30 to WSI. There are products on the market that we can use in the place of the WSI but at $54 a month I don't know if we will.
  10. we have a sirius weather receiver, but it's stamped WSI and avidyne but it's a WSI AV300, looks like this SiriusXM doesn't provide the service for it, it goes through WSI. WSI recently was purchased by IBM and at the end of 2017 they're discontinuing service for the system. That sucks because siriusXM can't load it in their system, and is more expensive so we'll have to go with something else for weather.
  11. Let the hsi drive the heading.
  12. We run it exclusively because it's what ram recommends for the big bore contis
  13. Well that would suck.
  14. I believe they tested w100 plus.
  15. the one for the kfc200 does preselect though, that's all I ask for. If i could make the kap150 preselect work with the aspen and not have to buy the expensive encoding altimeter I would do it. It can't be complicated to make a box to mimic the digital -> analog and make it all work. Climb is pretty busy work in the rocket and in complex or busy airspace it'd be nice to have one less thing to watch. They always give you a vector or a fix about 200 feet below your assigned altitude, it seems.
  16. He does yes I don't know why no one makes a converter to make the Aspen do that.
  17. we had a not so great experience with them recently. You can send your AI and AP to bob bramble in FL and he'll troubleshoot it on his test bench. He doesn't charge for diagnostics.
  18. the g5 won't provide attitude to the AP so you'll need to keep your king AI
  19. Then there's no question really, I'd dump it all and go dynon. It's getting harder to get king parts, if those servos fail they're very costly to repair and the additional cost of the ea100 makes it worth looking seriously at the dynon stuff.
  20. depends, which autopilot and what is providing attitude to it? If it's a king and you're keeping the ki256 attitude indicator, I'd get rid of it. If you're going to add the EA100 to the aspen to drive the AP you're light about $5kUS on your parts list
  21. I'd swap the rocket for a 4 if I could. There are a few down under 200k but it's probably not something to bargain shop for. Actually I've always thought a legacy with a tsio360 would be almost ideal.
  22. the ADSB/fan controller doesn't turn the fan on until 50c, mine hardly ran at all. The pi can happily run to 80C, in fact I have one in my attic running piaware that is currently at 78C because it's so hot up there. No problems. After 80 it'll throttle but still run.
  23. no turbo, no care
  24. what else do you have? GPS? Which kind?
  25. No such thing. Look at @Yooper Rocketman for example!
