I pull the nose wheel out of the hangar to lower the nose a bit to get the oil to flow forward, out of the filter and towards the drain. This also keeps the hanger floor clean. You could also deflate the nose tire. Remember the Mooneys squat with it’s tail down. Additionally I add 1/2 quart of MMO on flight before the oil change, thins the oil a little and cleans the engine.

On my J the fuel pressure sensor is downstream of the boost pump, on the engine after the engine pump, so I think a restriction in the boost pump would lower the fuel pressure? I would do a full power runup and check fuel flow to see if it’s at spec.

Whatever improvement in HP is countered by increased drag of the unsightly tail pipe, at least for the J.

In my case, the G3X will not accept flight plans using an external GPS (GTN Xi), it only accepts from the GTN.

The problem with that is the next owner/Pilot probably will NOT have your seating position. Whether you are upgrading the avionics or repainting your plane, I would give some consideration to what the future buyers will think. Im reminded of a J that was repainted by an Alabama football fan; red, roll tide lettering and the mascot…..eliminating anyone other than a Alabama fan.

I thought a lot about ergonomics, no matter what you’re going to have avionics well below eye level. 1. Got rid of the post mounted compass. 2. Put rarely interacted with avionics to right stack (JPI & Xpndr) 3. Shifted G3X to the right, because I always use split mode, this puts the AI centered on the yoke, puts the knobs/buttons on the right side. Left hand flys, right hand operates avionics. The left hand buttons I rarely use because they are duplicated elsewhere (DirectTo done on the GTN, heading on the GFC, etc). Other than operating the lights and setting the baro (done with G5), the right hand can do the rest. No awkward reaching over the yoke, no leaning over, minimal head movements.

Agreed, once you decided on G3X, GFC500, etc, I would bite the bullet and do GTN Xi.

I’ve seen F and E models advertised as a J because of speed mods. There’s more to a J than just some speed mods, I agree, getting the serial number, subsequently checking registration and NTSB database for accident reports should be something a buyer does when looking to buy.

Jeez, I just pointed it out because what model year, especially certain key years, like 77, 78, 87… it’s important to be able to help answer questions. When I say 77, that means throttle quadrant, etc, even though there may have been 77s built in 78 or vice versa. I thought maybe he had serial number 24-0001 or something?

Not that high, I look at my past logs before I upgraded to 900 from 830, it’s only maybe a 5-10° difference. When I was looking, I noticed I’ve have seen 200-209° temps , when I had high CHTs(400°) during a climb during the summer.

I don’t think I have ever seen oil temp in the 200s on my 78J.

It’s not that simple, my 78 has 60lbs more useful load than a 96 on controller. They got heavier due to changes they made through the years. I’ve seen the UL range from 900-1050 in the Js, less in the Ks. If UL is important you need to check it on each plane.
