  1. Keep in mind the rules/techniques for certificated w&b changed a bit through the 60s and 70s. Some may not have oil counted in basic empty weight, but later models likely do. It should include full oil in later models. Only way to know for sure is read your original documents.
  2. Could be all kinds of things, because absolute egt numbers are relatively meaningless like Carusaum said... that being said, it seems odd... have the chts remained about the same? Is it generating the same power? Climb/airspeed?
  3. Doesn’t the dual screen setup work off one GSU 25 ADHRS though? So the screens back each other up if a screen fails, but you could still be on the G5 real quick if the AHRS were to fail? I may be misreading that though...
  4. My bad, could have made it more clear... if you want to change the original config by removing the beacon, then there’s the guidance. If you wanna change bulbs or whatever, within the same configuration, have at it!
  5. Yep, agree with that as long as you kept the original lighting. If you wanna change (like adding LED strobes), I was thinking this is the guidance to follow based on year of airplane.
  6. Read through the literature quickly... appears for ifr you need to keep all backup (ie analog) instruments. Also didn’t see the g5 called out as an acceptable backup. Am I reading that right?
  7. Yep, nerves are normal there. Be involved with the wing repair and annual. Ask questions. Make sure every bit of known damage is repaired to your satisfaction. You’ll be upset without recourse when you find it later. You already know you’ll find other $$ things to fix later - welcome to aircraft ownership!
  8. Read through the rules carefully. Depends on year of your airplane and type of lights. If you get 360 degrees and proper elevation with just wingtip strobes, then you don’t need any other beacon or strobes. Just nav lights.
  9. Yep, could be. They are all exactly the same, so likely done at same place. Don’t think it’s random.
  10. I’m also interested in this. I know gsxrpilot said his wasn’t too good, but seeing how it’s mounted on an angle makes me think that’s part of the problem.
  11. You can definitely go without the beacon. I have a 68F as well, sn68-0164. I disagree with Carusaum... or maybe agree... the strobes are really bright and definitely get your attention. Even on the ground. Yeah, I wouldn’t stare into them, they might be disorienting. Anyway, they have to be visible 360 degrees and something like +\- 30 (that’s a guess). Look at a Cirrus, no beacon. Not that we want to be a Cirrus, but I digress... Whelen makes some. I have AeroLed. Mine are 360 degrees just from the wingtips, so the tail light is just white. They are very visible, don’t use any amps, and don’t burn out (theoretically). They aren’t real cheap.
  12. How about wingtip strobes and ditch the beacon all together?!
  13. Yep. Was maxing my budget and keeping with the garmin theme in my panel. The active traffic might be nice, below radar or ads b coverage, but the -345 has everything else just the same. I’m happy with the unit, I’m just a little more skeptical of the tis b I’m getting back from the FAA which is probably healthy.
  14. That is where mine is as well. My manual extension looks exactly like yours. 68F. Electric gear installed at the factory right after she was born. Not all mooney instructors are the same... I didn’t know any better on my checkout and the guy had me extend the gear manually... 40 cranks and no green. 40 more, no green. 40 more... oh, maybe try the engage lever? 40 more cranks... GREEN! Great, now nust put up the gear handle. Aaargghh! Almost lost my left leg as the system wound back up still engaged. That was with the unmodified gearing too. Thegear came up in like .5 seconds. That was the last time I flew with that Mooney Instructor. Gear was not damaged.
  15. This may not be true. Military accepts lasik/prk to meet minimum vision requirements. I was a military pilot and so is my brother. He had prk in college. Strongly reccomend 4 year degree. Opens lots of options. Certainly not required, but good. Get through CPL. Then either military through OTS or CFI. Military is a great job, decent pay, excellent training. You can leave and still go airlines at 32 years old.
  16. Ahh, thanks, that makes sense!
  17. So my “avionics shop” checked the settings today when I went up for a little scenic flight around the NW mountains... settings all good. Configured for both 1090 and UAT ADSB In. Seems like I was seeing traffic in my own “puck”. I’m really starting to think the FAA towers/ADSB/TIS B infrastructure isn’t 100% perfect and there’s a good chance some data (traffic) could be missed without warning.
  18. Not sure I understand you right, FF not having traffic selected shouldn’t cause those messages on the transponder at all. Transponder doesn’t care how you have FF set up, the messages are internal to the transponder. I’m definitely curious about this as well since I also have a GTX345.
  19. Good to know, thanks! I did read that the aoa is unrealiable... the adi should just be a function of the internal ahrs. Not good if that’s not solid.
  20. Surefly. No sos or mag.
  21. Yeah, I don’t disagree that you can send them yours to duplicate or purchase the ones they have pma for. Otherwise they sell to Mooney who sells to you.
  22. Recommend waiting on gfc500 or trutrack. In the meantime, get someone to show you how to use your stec30 on approach. It will trac the localizer perfectly. If you’re trimmed and on speed at the faf, small power change and you’ll follow the glide slope right on down. It really can minimize your workload. Very small trim/power changes while the AP does the lateral corrections. You may never want that more expensive AP!!
  23. Obviously IPad with an Ahrs works pretty good as a backup of last resort, and I’d use it if I had to. I think the AHRS in my gtx345 is pretty accurate & stable. It’s the Bluetooth connection and occasional ipad/FF restart that would worry me. I’m gonna get an AV-20S as a backup ADI. At least it’s purpose built and has internal ahrs. One other thing I think about as a backup... if I lose the ADI, get the autopilot on asap if not already. My stec30A is rate based, which is usually a drawback, but it works just fine without the adi. Use the heading bug and gentle trim/power adjustment to get on a good instrument approach or better yet, get vfr.
  24. If @Sabremech has any more of these Id gladly send a picture of mine which is shot in exchange/purchase of a new set. No different than sending your throttle cable to macfarlane for them to make you an owner produced part...
