  1. Yeah, we should have a Bolton Mooney get together! Maybe we can all taxi over to JP's.
  2. Yep. I also have an M20J that I keep at Bolton. Although it's not as nice as yours. I'm in the F hangars all the way at the back. There's another MS member, @steingar, who has an M20C at Bolton.
  3. Those pictures look like Bolton Field. Is that where you are based?
  4. I was told the same thing during training. I wonder if it was a concern with older engine designs?
  5. Are engine failures in the pattern a real problem? It seems to me we hear about: -Stalls on base-to-final turns -Engine failure on takeoff -Loss of control on takeoff (overloaded?) -Loss of control on go-around -Runway overrun (likely due to too much speed on final) Engine failures in the pattern? Not so much...
  6. Where can you find 4 adults that weigh a total of 580lbs (in full winter gear)? That's an average of 145lbs. Even the FAA now says people weigh 190 in the summer and 195 in the winter.
  7. That one is an M20J in Oregon. The OP said this one is a '65 M20E in Houston. It is apparently the same plane from this thread:
  8. Was this a 1965 M20E?
  9. If you are thinking about switching to T-Mobile they are currently offering a deal on prepaid SIMs. It is $3.99 for a new SIM that includes 30 minutes or 30 text messages. If you want to link the new SIM to an online account to manage refills you will need an unlocked phone to temporarily install the SIM and receive a text message with a numeric code. https://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-phone/t-mobile-prepaid-3-in-1-sim-starter-kit?icid=WMD_PD_Q316SIMSL3_Z8BMMAFTYGQ5815 I am not affiliated with T-Mobile or endorsing their service. I'm only aware of this because I let my previous SIM expire and I had to order and configure a new one. It ended up being significantly cheaper than paying the monthly fees to keep the old one active during the spring and summer when I don't use it.
  10. There's nothing wrong with a basic panel. You asked what to do to take your mind off waiting for the prebuy results. You might as well start the wish list now.
  11. Maybe start comparing Garmin vs Avidyne GPS options. Based on the listing it sounds like an original 1978 panel.
  12. You may find this relevant. http://docs.lib.purdue.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1115&context=jate
  13. LASAR might be able to help you. http://www.lasar.com/
  14. Not sure which version of the POH you are looking at but it must be for a later J model if it includes a speed for 2900 lbs. The Mooney that crashed was a 1980 J which would have had a max weight of 2740 lbs. I don't have my actual POH in front of me but the electronic copy I have of the generic Information Manual lists the following speeds: Normal Landing Distance: 2740 - 71 2500 - 69 2300 - 65 Maximum Performance Landing Distance: 2740 - 65 2500 -62 2300 -59
  15. The insulation was probably replaced as part of SB 208. The appropriate insulation is specified in the SB.
  16. Many do not have a generalized clause like what you wrote above. For example the purchase agreement suggested by AOPA has no such clause. https://www.aopa.org/go-fly/aircraft-and-ownership/buying-an-aircraft/forms-for-buying-and-selling-aircraft/sample-purchase-sales-agreement There is a provision for the seller to decline to repair items found on the PPI but they would then be obligated to reimburse the buyer for the cost of the inspection.
  17. Maybe you should remind them that failing to honor your purchase agreement may be breach of contract.
  18. Emojis are also available in MooneySpace by clicking on the little smiley face...
  19. The current test pilot no longer has to fly from the right seat now that the new models have a pilot side door.
  20. Have you verified that it's not a cowling alignment issue? They tend to ride up as the edges and fastener holes wear.
  21. Does an examiner have the authority to ground a plane?
  22. The parking brake is just a small valve that holds hydraulic pressure in the brake lines. It can't weigh very much.
  23. You can use GPS in lieu of DME on most approaches. If the localizer is in the GPS database then you can set that as the reference point and use the GPS distance. If the localizer isn't in your database then the intersections probably are.
  24. It looks like the "dog ears" are shorter on the J shafts because the bolt assembly that fits in the notch and attaches to the elevator controls is much smaller. On the older style controls it is apparently a larger block. Can you swap out the bolt assembly and make it fit?
