  1. Yes, they are dc motors with brushes. For overhaul expect about $1500 and 3 weeks.
  2. It’s 12 calendar months. So, last day of the month.
  3. There are two things I take away from Don‘s recent experience on the forum. First, the younger generation of pilots has spent a lot of time on social media such as Twitter, where the tone is very different from what we are used to here. Second, as an older pilot (flying for 45 years and counting) a lot of advice I give is ignored. Some folks have to learn it on their own and for themselves. I get used to it and don’t take it personally.
  4. Just like you don’t send a KX 155 to Bendix King for repairs. Send it to Bevan. There are enough of these units in service that there will probably be others stepping up to the plate as well.
  5. PS Engineering makes excellent audio panels and their products enjoy excellent factory support.
  6. I have had excellent work done by Air Parts of Lock Haven, coincidentally located where Comanches were made. You might check with them.
  7. Think twice before overhauling the prop. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2021/november/pilot/savvy-maintenance-propwash
  8. You mean a “Bad Rap.” This is a bad wrap:

  10. Several years ago, I was AOG in the Chicago area with a broken steering link. It was going to be a while before we could get the part, so I took a taxi to O’Hare for the ride back home. I had my flight bag with me with GPS, radio, survival kit, including matches, fishing hooks, a Leatherman with saw blade, etc. I just cruised on through TSA. In my rush to get through the airport, I forgot I had the naughty things in the bag. I think it helped that I had a very expensive ticket and there was a separate line for first class.
  11. You should be thankful that your mechanic is so thorough. lol
  12. Don’t use Home Depot or similar stuff. Either go to Aircraft Spruce and shop around, or visit your friendly A&P or Avionics tech. It will take them about 5 minutes to make it right.
  13. Scroll through this thread for a pic of one in a C.
  14. You can clean it with Deoxit contact cleaner.
  15. Away from home, in the plane. In the hangar, up against a wall. Never left on the plane. In fact, that’s the last thing I ask myself before turning the starter over, “where did I leave the towbar?“ I have not noticed other people leaving theirs attached when parked.
  16. It’s called an uplock.
  17. Contact cement.
  18. ADSB is a useful tool. No one advocates it as the only way to see and avoid traffic. You’re also making a good argument for having ADSB; it can tell you where to look. That’s important.
  19. My guess is that it’s an annunciator for an old IFR GPS.
  20. At about 2500 ft. In Eastern Arkansas near Crowley’s Ridge.
  21. Jimmy Garrison is a good resource and has an excellent reputation among Mooney owners. https://gmaxamericanaircraft.com/ BTW, having a lot of hours is not necessarily a bad thing. Aircraft are meant to be flown, not sit around. Also, consider expanding your search to include C models.
  22. Pilot was going to use his iPad to navigate the approach, but it died. The plane’s owner is not shown as IFR rated on the FAA site. Photo of panel shows an Stec a/p and a Garmin 430. I’m guessing he didn’t know how to use the Garmin for an approach. Sounds like he was arguing with the controller a little, trying to cancel his IFR so he could scud run.
  23. Agreed. An accident waiting to happen.
