N4352H - if you have something to say about the topic which was the future of VFR - even if I don't like the stated opinion - political, aviation, or otherwise, then fine and by all means, then please say it. That is free speech. If you just want to poke your finger in someone's eye, then please, show some restraint and don't do it for us all to watch this behavior of picking a personal fight. Are you still aching about some argument like 3 or 4 threads ago? Please stop attacking, and most of all, it reflects on you, not the person you are attacking. But especially please stop using this, our public mooneyspace forum, to do so.2 points

The personal replies don't occur in all topics. Most occur in general aviation topics - not mooney specific. I vote we keep the website for the really valuable info on Mooneys.2 points

The more advanced notice the better. Maybe take a look at this article: http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2012/April/26/Become-an-ambassador-for-GA1 point

I think it is a wonderful idea. I love it when we, as Mooney owners, do a charitable event. Not only is it "feel good" but it is great for our communities to know about our airports and what we can do to be a good neighbor. If you would like help with promoting to our community just drop me a line. We can make it a Mooney Ambassador event and help get the word out. Go Tom1 point

I had Lasik surgery a decade ago and I see 20/15, but my near vision is shot to - well, you know what. I too carry several pair of reading glasses located throughout the plane, and you can find a pair in every room of my house.1 point

A couple of years ago I responded here to the massive amount of outrage of the "impending" user fees that were coming down the pike within months. At that time I urged my fellow posters to take a deep breath because it wasn't going to happen anytime soon. I urge you to do the same in this case as well.1 point

Has anybody asked Mooney if they want to participate? They may be interested in the excess switches.1 point

I am highly skeptical that VFR will be ended. Then again the buffoons running the executive branch and Congress are dumb enough to try such a thing.1 point

I wear my readers on the end of my nose for checklists, charts, and ifr and look over them for distance. Just realized I have become my father.1 point

OK...so to prevent this falling through the cracks... I'll try to coordinate. Anyone interested, please send me a PM with which ones you are interested in. I won't go off of the previous interest stated because I don't know if anyone has found what they needed through alternate means. If we get to 5, in any one category I'll ask you to send the money by paypal and I'll submit the purchase. That way I'm not holding cash for people until we're ready to buy. I'll periodically post count to this thread so we can see how close we are toward each category of switch. Dave Castor1 point

I have about 6 pair of glasses stuck in various places in the plane and the flight bag. I am the opposite, near sighted, but when I wear my contacts that allow me to see eagle feathers or golf balls in flight I need your magnifying bifocals. For me www.clicgoggles.com which my pro shop sells are handy.1 point

My reply is this "do you need to notify the police when you get on the road in your car? Your 4000 pound Missle is heavier than my 2740 one..."1 point

Might be part of the plan. If the ATC system is suddenly over loaded, they would have to hire more people and install more equipment. This would cost a lot of money, money they could recoup with... you guessed it... user fees. Finally, all airplanes safely flying on government approved flight plans, the little guys paying their share and new job creation. How great is that! Win, win, win, right? Sadly, this would actually make good sense to a politician, or even the general public. <banghead>1 point

Wingtip LED "recognition" (landing) lights (wig wag), and LED strobe lights are on from the moment of startup to shutdown. Landing light (HID Boom Box) is on whenever the weather is murky or hazy, and always for landings - at least 10 miles out.1 point

Your poll has no option for me. I have an LED landing light, so it goes on just prior to taking the runway and it stays on until I exit the runway.1 point

You will be able to see the tide changing.... When the president of AOPA goes from a high-end businessman, flying turbine equipment, to an ordinary middle aged guy, typical of the NRA. We'll have slogans spoken by popular actors like "you can have my yoke, when you pry it from my cold, dead hands" Politics is a challenging field of work. The city I grew up near, used to post the number of people killed by violence each day on the evening news, with a total for the year. NYC's number was 3X the city I lived near. The scale of people killed each year by violence was related to the scale of unemployment. So if governments want to focus on something basicly important to the people. Help keep the people employed and educated. Then leave them free to fly... When a major US city is losing hundreds of people to violent crime each year, it makes restricting flying seem like a loss of focus. Stay the course, -a-1 point

E, Who are you asking? The post above yours is from N.O., the one above that is NJ, above that is DE... Not that I have a strong memory, it says where they are from next to their avatar. Where are you from? Go ahead and edit your avatar and include some details... Are you surprised by their answers? You will find similar answers by people across the globe as well... Welcome aboard,, -a-1 point

Yesterday I received one of the AOPA's mid-sized envelopes that had printed on it in large letters something like HELP STOP UNWARRANTED SEARCHES OF GA AIRCRAFT. It was another of their solicitations for additional monies from members. I find it more than interesting that the OP referenced an AOPA blogger's speculations about the possibility of the end of VFR flight. While the credentials of the blogger appear pristine, the timing of the piece he wrote does not. My sense of it is that his is a attempt to reinforce AOPA's continuing search for additional money. I'm not saying that the conclusion the blogger suggests might not be possible. I'm simply saying that the timing, to me, is highly suspect. Just call me cynical.1 point

Regardless of whether you file IFR or VFR, your preflight planning and evaluation should be the same. VFR just gives you the freedom to fly where and how you want. IFR gives you a safe means to travel through IMC. Some people file IFR when it's VMC to shed some of the responsibility of flying (deconfliction, visual lookout): it's kind of a false perception- just because you're IFR, doesn't mean you can blow off your visual lookout responsibilities.... Really, the appropriate way to file/fly on VMC days where radar coverage is available, is VFR flight following. You get the best of both worlds- traffic call outs and the freedom to navigate how you want to. Obviously, if you need the practice/proficiency, IFR flight during VMC conditions is the way to go, until you're ready for the big show. My comments are, as always, just my humble opinion, but I feel like IFR is overused, and in most cases, if you fly what you file, to include the approach, it costs you an extra 20 or so minutes. If you live in a super busy piece of airspace (DC, NYC, LA), then I don't fault IFR there as a routine- it's the best way to get around. Those silly VFR corridors are worse than I-5 during rush hour!1 point

I didn't mean monetarily: I meant physically. The amount of forced traffic requiring positive control would overwhelm the already undermanned ATC system. You're right: it's totally unrealistic to think of aviation without a VFR component (crop dusters, aerobatics, banner towing, sky diving, fighter jets, stupidest thing I've heard: forcing pilots to fly IFR when it's VMC... Talk about a waste of resources!1 point

I read through the posts and saw quite a number of people from MN, and one from EAU. There are three Mooney owners here at KFCM who get together for lunch every once in awhile, between us we have a 231, a 205, and a C or F, not sure which it is. There are a couple of other owners that I have not met, I just see their aircraft on the ramp from time to time. It looks to me as though we have a quorum for a Minnesota Mooney club, or a Minnesota/Southeast WI Mooney club. Why don't we try to get something going? I am gone next week (fishing in AK), but we could try meet sometime after that.1 point

Somebody please look up the number of VFR flight operations per year and then compare that to the number of stops by the feds. This article is more about paranoia than anything else, in my opinion.1 point

Interesting supposition made on behalf of the author; however, premature conclusions based on little if any facts with correlations drawn between issues which really don’t have anything to do with each other.1 point

Try out the simulator. I liked the additional functionality of the 750 and went for it.1 point
