  1. Past hour
  2. Hey everyone, Tried looking through some of the discussions in the past about paint shops and hadn't seen anything recent. Shockingly, several of the links from discussions just a couple of years ago no longer work! If you've had your plane painted or know someone who has in the last year or so, please let me know where you went and how satisfied you are with the result. I'm more concerned about the quality of work and them sticking to getting the plane finished on time (I fly my Mooney about 200 hours a year) than I am about price. I can't have my plane down for 5 or 6 months like some of the folks commented on. Thanks for the advice!
  3. And thank god for that! Do you really want MORE rules and laws? Remember, not all of them are going to be ones that YOU agree with! Be careful what you ask for is never a caution to forget when dealing with the Federal government!
  4. Yet the FAA REFUSES to mandate parts of the AIM..
  5. "I sometimes call it the Utopia book. If everybody did what the AIM says they should do, all of us would be out of jobs. None of us would ever be in any trouble. Because everybody would do everything they were supposed to do….” — Comment by the Administrative Law Judge in FAA v. Scheltema (1990)
  6. All this discussion about a light that's ONLY required if you are operating for hire..individuals telling others what they SHOULD be doing and when they SHOULD be using it.... is it a good idea to keep it on unless it interferes with ground personnel/aircraft..I certainly think so..the AIM makes suggestions for its use but the AIM ISN'T REGULATORY...
  7. Today
  8. Agree. I’m thankful that folks have the brass ones big enough to try it in this uncertainty….economy, not knowing where 100LL is headed, insurance, legality, etc. if someone has a better idea, the resources and the courage to take the step then please do…..at least you would create competition….if not let’s hope this works out for the sake of all our Mooneys.
  9. Ditto. Installing screws by hand so you can feel what is happening is the ONLY way on an airplane. When it starts to feel "odd" you can back it out and investigate further. That's how I spotted the problem in the first place.
  10. You (likely) know your A&P better than any of us here. Have you been with him a long time? Does he have lots of Mooney experience? Do you have any directional issues on landing rollout? The collar on top of the donuts may fix that. There’s a SB on it. Any other steering issues? Looking at your video, I don’t think it’s that bad. When I went through my nose gear last year, it was a LOT worse than yours. Verify all the hardware is correct. There’s been changes in the hardware over the years. Just installing new hardware might satisfy your A&P.
  11. I would put one of the 2.25" round comms in that spare space...
  12. Since I've never taken my C to FL180 (but did once reach 18,800 Pressure Altitude), I keep my landing light switch ON all the time.
  13. So im supposed to taxi around the airport using my wingtip red and green lights and my belly strobe for illumation? Very little of that light is visible in front of me. Or do you have a (free) STC to mount a taxi light somewhere on Vintage Mooneys???
  14. I have read other threads here about this but I'd still appreciate input on the urgency of action regarding how much play there is in the nose gear. My A&P seems to think it's pretty bad. Edit: just removed access restrictions. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PlbGSu-92SCLNSjbroHss-wG_-plGW70/view?usp=drivesdk Thank you all!
  15. Good morning, I probably over simplified that response. Actually requires Illustrator, which takes a bit of 'getting used to' if you haven't used before. Sort of like landing a Mooney I suppose. In return, here are a couple files I made this morning. I also made an SVG but that cannot be uploaded to Mooney Space. Feel free to privately message me if you would like to share your email and I can send that along as well. Mooney_name_logo.pdf
  16. I have it on the underside of my glare shield. it seems to work fine.
  17. installed a GDL51 receiver in the right panel stack under the glareshield, felt too bulky to install on top of glareshield, use to feed XM weather to my handheld 796 via bluetooth, wondering whether anybody has done this install and whether XM signal is strong enough to go through composite glareshield or whether additional XM antenna should be plugged into GDL51 and put on top of glareshield, black glareshield gets hot in flight, plug in antenna is also black, soo wondering what is better, GDL51 under glareshield or antenna that gets hot on top of glareshield, opinions?
  18. yes...on the ground it should only be on when aircraft is moving and not in another pilots face......but in the air it should basically stay on 100% of the time below 18,000..
  19. That’s a riot!! Except they forgot to add gear up or flap retract topic
  20. Also, on the ground landing light on implies aircraft movement.
  21. I've never had an issue with a GA plane taxiing toward me with their landing light on. If it was a 737, that might be different. Oh, and the Cirrus guys with their strobes going all the time, that is a bit distracting.
  22. It's bad airmanship to taxi around with it on if you're pointed in someone else's direction.
  23. Bryan-with-a-Y is pretty good. His videos continue to improve. No Cirrus pilots seems like a valid rule!
  24. This is one of the benefits of LED lights. I installed mine over 10 years ago, and can only recall the switch being turned off twice--once during annual, and once halfway through a pitot-static check.
  25. I've replaced my landing and taxi lights with the Whelen G3's that I bought from Jim Gallagher who is a sponsor here and can be contacted through MS. Great improvement, much less current draw (3.8 amps @ 14v) as well as having a very long service life. Not to mention they're less money than the Moon Beam balast alone. https://flywat.com/products/parmetheus™-g3 Contact information. https://mooneyspace.com/profile/13533-osuav8ter/ gallagheraviationllc@gmail.com
  26. Do you want to be talked in to, our out off getting a second comm? 2nd comm is really nice for a lot of things - backup, frequency management, being able to monitor ATIS/AWOS, easy flipping between the two, etc... But you don't *need* it for what you're doing, and it's your money you're spending so you have to value it or feel like you're missing something now. FWIW I put a GNC215 in my plane as a secondary NAV/COMM. I like having dual radios and my cockpit workflow takes advantage of it. I also like having the secondary NAV and keep a VOR dialed in as I fly.
  27. I’m a fan of two comms. Like a number of pilots, I organize them based on whom I’m communicating with. And I like the convenience of being able to listen to AWOS/ATIS without going off comm frequency. But I really like the ability to monitor the CTAF at my nontowered destination while still talking to ATC (both IFR and when getting flight following). I like the extra situational awareness that gives me.
