So I replaced the weather stripping around the vent window yesterday and in the process I dropped one of the outside screws for the window inside the ariplane.  I must have looked for an hour but could not find it, any idea of where I would get another on of these, Its a slot screw with a nipple like that passes though the window.

And I thought it was it was just my Mooney that eats screws! Glad to know there are more screw eating Mooneys! I've dropped a couple little screws on the floor, never to be seen again! This is my biggest fear when I'm doing something inside the plane involving little screws. That I'll drop one and never see it again!

As Marauder said, do check the pocket. I did find one hiding in there once a long time after it managed to escape. Also, from experience, I've noticed they tend to migrate towards the back. Even when you drop them in the front they tend to find their way towards the back. Check back there under the carpet in front of the spar.

My Mooney eats all kinds of things. Finally found my flashlight after a couple of months.

Little things roll backwards because the floor isn't level on the ground, the plane sits nose high. Anything on the floor will also migrate backwards every time you push the throttle forward to take off, climb, etc. There is a difference between "level flight" and "level aircraft."

Good luck getting your window put back on. If you have to fly it in the meantime, I'd put the remaining screw in the front hole, latch it closed, cross your fingers and obey the placard "Do not open above 150 mph" by keeping the window closed and airspeed below 150 mph [or whatever your plane is placarded for].

Lee's answer sounds like a good fix, too.

A 10-32 truss head machine screw with a locknut will work fine too. (Locknut on the inside of course.) Lee

I've tried using a locknut before and on my window it will prevent it from folding all the way down.

Go to mcmaster.com and search for binding post.

You can fabricate a new latch with some plexiglass sheet of the appropriate thickness...just use the old one as a template, and glue the "rib" on to the base.

Welcome to Mooneyspace too!

A Mooney cannot live by fuel alone it needs some fiber in it's diet. :)
