I've got an extra pair of vintage Mooney yokes that I was planning to upgrade and re-cover to swap out with my present set.  The plan was to incorporate new PTT and A/P buttons along with fitting an aftermarket clock in the center.  Since the old yokes are typical "skinny" yokes, I was planning to build up the the yokes somehow before leather covering to accept the clock and buttons to give a more modern appearance while not altering the yoke's base structure itself.  Is this a "legal" alteration?

Thanks,

Don

The issue I can see is being able to properly inspect the yoke for cracks if covered up with anything.

So how do people inspect yokes after Hector at Aero Comfort covers them in leather? Mine are just powder coated.

The AD is for cracks in the yoke shaft, not yoke itself.

That was my understanding as well. And if I am not mistaken (will need to go back and look at the AD) if you upgraded to the newer style shafts, it ended the AD.
