Jamie Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 Anyone have any experience with Strategic Aircraft? They have a plane I'm interested in and since they're located on the field at Willmar, it seems like a no brainer to at least talk to them. http://strategicaircraft.com/ Quote
Skywarrior Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 They work with Bruce Jaeger. That should tell you enough. In a very good way. Quote
gjkirsch Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 To the best of my knowledge, Bruce has no financial interest in Strategic Air. He certainly knows Tim and may know some of the planes beign offered. That said, I would talk to Tim and if you are interested in a plane ask Bruce to check it out for you. He will review the logs and fly it and give you his opinion of the plane, it's condition, and value. Following that, there are choices other than Wilmar in the area for a prepurchase. I have purchased multiple planes from Bruce and my current one from Tim at strategic air. I found Tim to be ok. All that said, STILL plan on finding a bunch of squawks that first year to fix. Quote
AndyFromCB Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 I didn't buy my plane from Tim but I did talk to him a few times and met him once. Seemed like a straight shooter. He used to work for Bruce and then they split the shop up after Bruce retired with Tim taking over sales, Bruce training, Brian maintenance and Paul fuel tanks. Quote
Jamie Posted January 14, 2013 Author Report Posted January 14, 2013 Thanks. I'll give 'em a call. Though I'm not looking forward to actually going: METAR KBDH 140255Z AUTO 27005KT 10SM SCT110 M16/M18 A3018 Brrrr. Maybe that'll keep the competition away. Quote
kris_adams Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 That's what I was thinking Jim. Sounds almost too good to be true. Quote
231Pilot Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 I talked with Tim before I bought my 231, and he is very personable. I had a 201 to sell and he lowballed the 201 to the point that I had t say no thank you. I talked with Jimmy at All American and we were able to make a mcuh better deal. Strategic is probably a good place to buy a Mooney, Tim's reputation is very good, but it was not such a good place to try to get one sold, at least not for me. Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 Tim's a good guy to do business with. Quote
Seth Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 Tim works for both the buyer and seller - he wants to get the plane sold and will help each party realize what has to be done to make a deal. He has great support from Bruce Jaeger and also Jason Doscher who completed the pre-buy inspection (and annualed at purchase) my Mooney Missile. Tim really made sure that the transaction occured when at times both sides were ready to leave the deal. He's a great guy to work with - we still keep in touch. I know Parker also has a good relationship with Tim. He is someone you can call to talk about the aircraft. Obvioulsy, he'd love a sale to come out of the experience, but he's happy to work with you even if a sale does not occur. Jason Doscher is located at BBB a short flight away from Wilmar. Also, one of the nicest aspects that Tim wanted to be sure of was that I did not buy too much airplane. I appreciated that. It may rub some people the wrong way, but he wanted to make sure I'd be able to fly the airplane (pay for fuel) rather than just watch it sit in the hanger (or outside). He cares about his customers. He also has a lot of Mooney time. I would reccomend contacting Tim at Strategic Aircraft anytime for anything. http://strategicaircraft.com/ -Seth Quote
Jamie Posted January 15, 2013 Author Report Posted January 15, 2013 I called Tim today. Based on that call, and the recommendations here I'm most likely headed to KBDH next week. thanks, guys. How'd people buy planes before the Internet? Quote
