Marauder Posted March 18, 2013 Report Posted March 18, 2013 Phillip -- I just received my Switchbox -- thanks! Was wondering if you could answer a few questions. > I am assuming the SIM card is activated since I was able to call the unit and have it turn on and off on the one outlet. So how do I know when my card will expire? You mention 3 months. Is that 3 months from when you shipped it? > The instructions say that phone calls to the unit are free. So does this mean I have an unlimited number of calls? The reason I ask is because I would like to use it for non aviation tasks during the summer months. If it is limited, how many calls can I make? > How many text messages can be made with the card that was in the unit when I received it? I think you mentioned there was $3 on the card, is that correct? How many messages can I send? > I have the iPhone ap downloaded. Messages on the Apple products can send text messages to phone numbers over WiFi. Will this work with your unit? If not, how about TextPlus? Thanks! Quote
Guest Posted March 18, 2013 Report Posted March 18, 2013 Hey happy you got it up and running. Sure, let me answer some questions. You have 3 months from the time it shipped, until you need to put some more credit on there. Anytime you want to check your balance, account status, dates, etc... call TMobile with that 1800# in your manual. It will take just 2 mins and you can mark your calendar. (Or they have a yearly plan, so you dont have to keep calling in... ask them about it, if you are interested) You are correct, phone calls are Free. So for the next 3 months you can use your box unlimited times and no charges will occur. Text messages are 10 cents in and 10 cents out. Check your manual for a nice run down of how the texts work throughout the year. Yes, $3.00 credit on your account to start The iMessage thing from Apple is a way to send texts to other friends of yours that use iphones, ipads, etc. The SwitchBox is a 'cellphone' technically but its not an 'Apple Product' so you have to send a text the old fashioned way Email me if you have any questions Happy to help support@switchboxcontrol.com Quote
Guest Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 We have 1 or 2x boxes left... still trying to gauge interest if we should do another run for everyone P Quote
bumper Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Phil, Got the switch box installed switching the sump heater on two planes. The "all in one - done put together package" is worth the extra cost over building it from parts on-line. Good quality, written instructions, and an easy install. Android app instructions, either not so good or perhaps my computer dumminess is rearing it's head again - - I did get it figured out though. Suggestion: Add a couple of LED indicators on the box to show Output 1 and 2 status at a glance. all the best, bumper Quote
carusoam Posted March 22, 2013 Report Posted March 22, 2013 Status lights sound like a good idea... Otherwise requesting status by cell phone works well. Best regards, -a- Quote
bumper Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Status lights sound like a good idea... Otherwise requesting status by cell phone works well. Best regards, -a- Agreed, calling for status for sure works. But if you're standing right there in the hangar looking up at the darn thing (mine's mounted 24 feet up). Hauling one's phone out to make an otherwise needless text call doesn't seem a well thought out solution when for less than a buck's worth of parts it could'a had indicator lights. And mine will, shortly! bumper Quote
bumper Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 I added two LED indicators to my SwitchBox. On one end of the circuit board there are two red LEDs that indicate power to each relay. While it would be easy to remote mount those, I chose instead to wire the new LED indicator lights to the relay coil terminals - - these would be the small terminals that are not connected to board trace on the back side of the board. Relay activated, ground is switched to one terminal, the other remains just under 12 VDC. It's simple to determine polarity for the LED output without applying power. Measure between relay 1 and relay 2 like coil terminals with an ohmmeter, the terminals that measure zero ohms between them are positive. bumper Quote
