Just used the cloudahoy app today and have decided I will use it on every flight. It's easy to use on the ipad, you just hit start then go back to your flying app of choice. At the end of your flight you hit stop. Then it downloads the data to their website (ehich you need an account). On their site you can get a debrief of your flight, flight time broken into ground time and true flight time, your route on a google earth map, along with your groundspeed, alt, and hdging. Truely a very useful tool. Easier to record flight time than jotting down hobbs time or starting your stopwatch.

I installed this last week but I have yet to try it. My last flight was part of an upset recovery training course, and i emptied my pockets before the flight. (I would love to have known whether it could have recorded the flight while tucked away in a pocket though!). I can't wait to try this on a "normal" flight.  Thanks for the review.

I've used it a few times and it is a lot of fun.  It's much better if you review it on a PC rather than your iPad.  My biggest problem is remembering to start it before a flight.  Must be a senior problem.

I downloaded that app today and gave it a try.  I thought it was pretty awesome....I really liked the cockpit view.  It was pretty accurate as well.  I almost forgot to hit the start button though....other than that pretty cool.

Opening an app and then starting it is easier than setting the hands on your clock? Or do your fancy, newer birds not have a clock with settable red hands used to track fuel tank changes and flight time? It can be difficult to remember to write down the times when making multi-leg flights, but most of mine are one leg and not too hard to remember about when I landed.

EDIT:  see my comments below. Cloud Ahoy ain't just a timer! Sorry, Derek!

Newer birds have two timers in the adf. One comes on with the master avionics switch and the other starts if you remember to push the button.

covered both ways...

WingX also has a timer and the LCD clock quadruples as a timer as well.

Sorry if I misled anyone. This app is not a clock to track fuel changes or log times during flight. It is "in a sense" a flight recorder. It records all the data from your flight i.e. ground time, flight time, takeoff time, landing time and distance, alt, hdg, and gs. It will provide you a more acurrate flight time (time in the air not taxiing) than a hobbs meter. I do not have any affiliation with it just though it was unique and the wife though it was cool that you can "watch" your flight on the computer through google earth.

Did some checking on the Cloud Ahoy app, and it looks quite interesting. A nice way to review a flight afterwards, complete with GPS tracking. I don't really see a need for all of its functions, nor did I check how it determines start of flight, takeoff, landing, etc., but it seems pretty neat. If only MooneySpace would let me post using my Droid phone . . .

This app is just crazy!!!  I recorded a flight today from my home airport to work and am just amazed (of course I'm easily amazed) at how accurate it is.  Not sure I see a "use" for it, but it is definitely neat to play around with.  I love the cockpit view and seeing Google Earth lay everything on it's side.  It's almost scary to think how technology is advancing.

Flew an approach to minimums the other day and recorded it using cloud ahoy. It was neat to then go back and 'see' where I actually was as I gained contact with the airport.

Circling app at dusk where you break out over mid-field (i.e. can barely see rwy). Not my favorite thing in the world to do.. but OK with it at home-base.
