Rick Junkin Posted April 26 Report Posted April 26 Can anyone provide the part number for the gasket between the turbo and the exhaust transition on the TIO-540-AF1B? The Lycoming parts catalog doesn't show one, but there was one installed when I removed the transition from the turbo. I traded emails with Lycoming tech support and they also referenced the Lycoming parts catalog and said there's no gasket between these parts. They suggested looking for it in the Mooney IPC, but the only exhaust parts I can find in that document are the tail pipe and it's associated gaskets and v-band couplers. There was a gasket there, I'm hesitant to have it reassembled without one. Quote
Fritz1 Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 Mooney parts come only downstream of the wastegate, if there is a gasket directly at the turbo exhaust intake it is a Lycoming part, I never had my turbo off, but looking at pics of my exhaust I do not see a gasket at this location. Call Main turbo in CA or Brian Kendrick in TX 830 370 1190 to get the inside story. 1 1 Quote

LANCECASPER Posted April 28 Report Posted April 28 The application chart doesn't show anything for your engine: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pdf/rapcogasketapp.pdf If the Lycoming engine manual doesn't show a gasket, unless Main Turbo or Brian says otherwise, I think whoever put it together last time wasn't paying attention as closely as you are. There may be a good reason there isn't a gasket there. @philiplane has worked on a lot of M20M airplanes - he also would know. 1 Quote

But with Lycoming tech support telling me there isn’t one and then saying to check the Mooney parts catalog, it leaves room for doubt. I’ll check with the experts. My IA will put it back together either way. @philiplane can you offer your expertise? Quote
