MoonFlyer68 Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 Hello fellow Mooniacs. I am currently living in Alabama but recently purchased an airpark property in the Fort Worth area (Weatherford TX). Summer of 2025 we will move out to the area but it will be at least another year before our house and hangar are built. My current Alabama hangar is $185 a month. So far I have seen prices in that area of $650 and up, plus there seems to be a long waitlist even to get into those. What I am hoping to find is an economical hanger I can put my plane into while we are building our house and hangar. I am good with lets say about a 100 mile radius but of course closer is always better. Even if that means the hangar is actually in lower Oklahoma I am good with that. Does the hive mind have any suggestions of places I should look into that might fit my needs? My hope is that if I get onto a waitlist now, I may be near the front of the list come next summer. Quote
Niko182 Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 can you start building the hangar now, and the house when you get there? Quote

I certainly wish we could. The hangar must be built at the same time as the house or after the house per the HOA restrictions. As a side note, we are trying to have the land paid off before we break ground out there so that also takes time as well. It's a great thought, but unfortunately not possible. Quote

I would start looking on a sectional (or Foreflight) at all of the airports N and W of Fort Worth and then look at airnav.com to get contact information for those airports and then I would start calling. The further out from the Metroplex that you get, (1) the greater the chances of finding a hangar and (2) the less the monthly price will be. You'll find something within 100 miles though for sure, probably within 75. Don't expect any of them to be $185/month though. You've probably already checked, but the first place I'd check would be http://parkercountyairport.com/. Quote
Max Clark Posted October 1, 2024 Report Posted October 1, 2024 I went through this recently. Called every airport and FBO within 90 minutes of my house more than once. Got on the waiting list for all of them. Found a hangar (for a twin $$$) within two weeks, and a month later got a spot closer to home. It's scary, but if you put in the time you'll find a spot. Pinecone Posted October 15, 2024 Report Posted October 15, 2024 When you contact them, it may help to let them know you only need it for a year. There may be a hangar that is rented, but waiting for the owner or a sublet for a while. Quote
