If you need/want the OEM 40:1 Gear Set

I spoke with the CEO of Mooney earlier in the week regarding the fact that the 20:1 or 40:1 gear sets, for the landing gear actuator, are unavailable and that there are only (2) rather expensive alternatives those face whose gear sets fail the Reoccurring AD. I made a proposal that he is considering but I need to know how many individuals are interested in or want a set of the OEM gears, depending on the outcome, we may have a (1) time opportunity to acquire a set. So, the information I owe Mr. Pollack is how many sets are needed which will determine if what I proposed is doable. If he accepts the proposal, then I will be able to let you know both the pricing and lead-time for the item, this would be similar to a consolidated purchase that would require that payment be made upfront.

If (seriously) interested, please let me know how many sets you are interested in, if you know any of the MSCs that may be interested, please let them know as well, I am hoping that there is enough interested that the volume will both reduce cost and make the proposal acceptable to Mooney and the purchaser.

 

 

Once again, this is for OEM gear sets, NOT what I am currently working on in the event this doesn't work out.

I'm interested, but at a rational price. I'm not sure what that is, but I'll know it when it is offered!

Perhaps Mooney can give us pricing for 10, 50, 100 to help generate some interest...

Id be interested in one as well.  I put a $300 down payment on a $600 intake boot to put on my shelf, this part also seems reasonable to have on the shelf.  It would be nice if one of the MSCs would buy 10-20 sets to keep the fleet going though because it’s kind of rare to have to replace them, but if you need it, you’re grounded without.

Interested.

Mooney should start a go-fund-me style page for parts... collect orders and execute once a threshold is met. Probably easy to set up, they can charge a fee for managing it and being middleman. 

I'm sure many MSC's would be interested in stocking up on this too...

I would buy a set, and I know of at least one other who would as well. 
 

probably post to Facebook group(s) as well. Lots more of them using those pages.

Seriously interested in one set of 20:1 (40:1 only if the 20:1 not available).  Obviously dependent on price; not interested at >$5,000, buy in a heart-beat at <$2,500.

Not posted by manufacture, on condition as of now as they are so old, appears to be directly tied to how they have been maintained and wether or not they have been properly serviced throughout the years. All I can tell you is that if yours are bad, you are AOG, there are none of these out there, you will have to buy a used actuator with questionable gears or convert over to the Johnson Bar, ant that also isn't cheap.

LOL, we'll see, I've also reached out to every Mooney Service Center hoping that they will want to stock up, increasing the QTY to make it feasable and affordable for both Mooney and us, I haven;t stopped the OPP efforts, just running in parallel for now. will let you know.

didn't you find some that were for a cessna that would work in the Dukes actuator a few years ago?

Not me, but I vaguely remember a discussion about Cessna gears that might work; like out of a flap drive, or some such.

I know there’s been a lot of discussion on this issue, but could you refresh us on the AD and/or Service Bulletin references?  Or is this a known high failure item with no parts available?

I wouldn't say it is a high failure rate item, but if it does fail you are AOG because you can't get the parts...it only affects the Dukes Actuator and you will have a reocurring AD, lube every 100 hrs and remove clean and inspect every 200 hours.

Just curious in your conversations with various MSCs, what kind of feel did you get for how often someone calls them looking for an actuator/gears?

My initial conversations were just trying to find the gears to which they mentioned that they have been unsuccessful getting mooney to provide them...And currently I've contacted each one, via email, asking how many they would want to carry on hand if they were available...

Mooney does not produce them.  They buy them from a third party vendor based upon proprietary Mooney drawings and/or specifications.  The only problem is that Mooney does not have the cash to place a prepaid order in an economically large quantity like any normal going concern would.
