1967 427 Posted May 18, 2024 Report Posted May 18, 2024 In many threads I have read that people state adding weight to the rear (increasing moment arm) results with an increase of speed. I would assume that this applies not only to the C’s, but also the E’s and the 4 D’s that still exist. Has anyone done testing with adding weight in the baggage area? (Keeping all other parameters identical). Presently when I fly by myself my moment arm starts at 45.1 and if I ran the tanks dry my moment arm would be 44.5 as I became a glider. Quote
PT20J Posted May 18, 2024 Report Posted May 18, 2024 That’s true for all airplanes with a conventional tail because aft CG reduces the tail down force which reduces induced drag of the stabilizer and wing (because the wing has to support the aircraft weight AND the tail down force). So the aft CG limit should be the lowest drag. Quote
bcg Posted May 18, 2024 Report Posted May 18, 2024 I pick up about 1MPH by moving my seat all the way back in cruise. It's more comfortable for me, also. Quote
1967 427 Posted May 18, 2024 Author Report Posted May 18, 2024 The aft CG limit for the C model is 49, have never flown close to that number. I suspect the longest arm I have flown with was 47.5 Quote
