Pinecone Posted May 15 Report Posted May 15 I use Wash Wax All blue for leading edges and cowling after flight. Red for belly Plexus, I still have some. I have heard that Prist and others mentioned are also good. The Plastx mentioned seems like a more aggressive product than I would use daily No need for RainX Is the spinner actually chromed? Or polish aluminum. As I understand it, there is no approved chrome plating of spinners I don't see a need for a fuel filter funnel. If you are that worried about the fuel, you need a funnel and a REAL chamois. But it would be a serious need for me to refuel if I thought I needed that. The organizers mentioned seem to take up a lot of room. Right now, my little stuff is on the hat shelf and big stuff is in the baggage area. I am planning on getting a couple of storage bins for the baggage area from Target or WalMart I fly in real shoes. If you crash you want to have your feet protected. Same reason I don't fly naked. I plan on adding an ACR PLB to my kit. I actually carry a full on survival kit. http://www.dougritter.com/ There is also a school of thought that if it is not on your body, you may not have it after the crash. I have heard good things about the Dry Bot. But the best thing is to FLY THE PLANE OFTEN. MAPA is dead. The action is here and on Mooney Flyer online magazine. IMO, it worth working through the entire run of Mooney Flyer. There is been talk about trying to scan all the MAPA magazines and putting them online. I would love to see this. Quote

A case of oil is usually handy, with a few in the airplane and the appropriate funnels and wipes, etc. If you have a hangar already that'll make it a lot easier since you can just keep stuff there. exactly this - and I can't wait. Just going a little stir crazy for escrow. Quote

I’d suggest a plastic ammo can to keep all of the plane stuff organized in the baggage area. I carry around a spare landing light bulb. If you don’t have an LED landing light I would recommend that. Triflow is a primary lubricant but some things are supposed to get LPS2. So I’d get some of that. I primarily use checklists on foreflight now. They have some generic Mooney templates that you can modify for your purposes. Congrats on the new plane! Basic toolbox in the plane for sure. Yours was the first mention of spare bulb - sounds like there might be a story... I'm pretty deep into Foreflight so using it for checklists isn't a bad idea. I do like having paper in the pocket to refer to, it's hard for that to fail. Ordered the laminated Checkmate checklists, curious to see how I like them. Quote

Allen wrenches, too. Everything standard, not metric. You'll need a 1" wrenches for the oil filter--I bought an inexpensive set when the Elks Club had a truckload tool sale, in a green canvas roll, and goes up to 1-1/8". I recommend Aero Cosmetics Wash n Wax--blue for everything but the windows, red for the belly, and lots of cheap 100% cotton towels. I'd use this over Simple Green. With Plexus on the windows, you won't need Rain-X. But I use it on my cars. Blue Shop Towels on a roll from Sam's are best for wiping your hands and spilled oil; don't use them on your plane. I'll find the picture of my Rubbermaid tool box that lives in the baggage area and it's contents. Mechanics gloves. Multitool for travel. Etc. Thanks! Quote

You probably have one or two already but now you’re going to have 4 seats. If you expect to fly full house often, get some good ones. If you don’t expect to fly with 4 people, you’ll still want to pick up a couple cheap new or used headsets to have on hand when the occasion occurs. Maybe some life jackets for flight over water. Emergency blanket (the aluminum foil ones that don’t take any space). Dip stick for fuel measurement. Good point on the headsets - I already have four ANC so that's not on my list. Emergency blanket and first aid kits were a big miss, adding that to my list thanks! Quote

If you install a BatteryMinder with the STC connectors, let me know, I can 3D print a mount for it. Hadn't thought of this, do you have access to the plug via the baggage compartment? DCarlton Posted May 15 Report Posted May 15 In my plane: - spare head set and extra reading glasses - a small air gage - a spare fuel cap - a extra baseball cap and sunscreen - allen wrenches, that fit the instrument knobs and radios - lightweight chocks - extra oil, funnel, rags - nylon seat cushion for shorter passengers (or to put between the passenger and the yoke if an off field landing becomes necessary) - flight bag with mostly stuff I never seem to use; need to buy a hand held radio In my truck: - Aerocosmetics belly soap, wash and wax, plexiglass window cleaner, paper towels and rags - a better air gage - basic tool box, screwdrivers, etc - fully charged air tank, hose and chuck Quote

I'll double check on the spinner - just a note that I've seen on other posts Fuel funnel w/ filter was a comment from the seller. He used self serve somewhere and it had algae contamination. The tow bar alone is somewhere between 18 - 10 pounds, I haven't weighed it separately but know that the packing materials are at least a pound, it takes a lot of padding. Quote

Rick Junkin Posted May 15 Report Posted May 15 Left center is a throttle lock. Top right is a rechargeable tire inflater. Center is spare fuel drain. Add a quart of oil, a can of Plexus and assorted rags and microfiber and pack into a plastic ammo can. 13 pounds of contingency mitigation. Cheers, Junkman 1 Quote
Skates97 Posted May 15 Report Posted May 15 I also have one of these silicone mats to use as a fuel mat on the wing. It is not very heavy, rolls up and folds in half. I cut a hole in it about 3/4 of the way back, just long enough that it hangs over the leading edge. The only downside is that because it isn't very heavy if it is windy the wind can pick it up and blow it off the wing. https://a.co/d/cXIFDo8 1 Quote
