Can you take out the bottom of the rear bench easily?

I have a 1970 M20E, with the rear seat backs that fold down individually. But they can’t be folded down too much (forward) because the bottom part gets in the way. As it stands they are at about a 30 degree angle. Is there a way to make them go flatter, in order to put a bike in the back?
