I have been having an intermittent problem with my avionics master relay leaving all the avionics on.  I have been told it is kaput and needs to be replaced.  Stacey at Mooney said the old relay isn't available but a replacement kit is available for only $969.38.  Stacey also says the correct part number is either MB 4443 or MB 443-1.  Anyone know of an available part or a less expensive alternative?

Most of these relays you can get it directly from the manufacturer or electronis parts suppliers for a much lower price. I paid for mine $35 from a local truck parts supplier and it was exactly the same part with the same manufacturer part number. On the relay itself check for a part number or manufacturer.

So, if I only know the relay is somewhere on the copilot side, can someone give me info on how to identify this particular relay?

Follow up on the master relay about which I posted.  The shop pulled the relay and found that there was some carbon  build up.  Another friend recommended diode suppression and the shop installed one after cleaning out the carbon.  Parts - zero.  Labor - $500 (ouch).  So far, so good.

Old post I know, but my plane just experienced the same thing. The avionics buss was always on regardless of the position of the avionics master. It turned out to be carbon buildup on the relay and the existing component was removed and cleaned and didn't require replacement.

Not sure how much the bill is going to be but according to the shop, the relay is part of the airframe and needed to be removed and re-installed by an A&P in order to be signed off on. The avionics shop had to farm this part of the job out.
