Going to replace the oil screen with an oil filter adapter at annual in March since we are pulling the screen to check anyway. Filters seem to becoming more available.

Been looking at the Casper labs adapter , any other to look at? The factory Lycoming? I am worried about clearance. I do not have interest in the remote mount(airwolf).

Looks like Casper Labs uses 48108 filter, of which is in stock currently on AS.

If I recall it’s an exact copy of the lycoming one. Use lycoming gasket and 48110 filters. I’ve got some of the lycoming gray paint at the hangar if you wanna spruce it up before installation.

Sounds good. Maybe I’ll fly over one of these days and we can install it, installation seems straight forward.

So decided to install this Donaldson adapter at annual, currently with my A&P/IA. Adapter is installed with the one bolt replaced with a stud(thanks @Robert Hicks)

However when trying to spin on the oil filter the prop governor arm is in the way. Anyone have a solution? Seems maybe this is a non-standard configuration. See pictures attached.

Some of the cable mounting brackets have slotted holes allowing you to change the angle somewhat.

I have (had, I’m in the process of installing a PCU-5000) a Woodward governor.  It had a cutout in the prop cable support bracket to give clearance for the oil filter to be removed.   I’m not sure which prop governor you have, but on the Woodward, the cable support bracket is mounted to the governor with the case screws.

CAUTION:  I wouldn’t remove any case screws on the governor to remove the cable bracket for trimming lest you FOD out your engine cowling with the governor’s internal parts.

Good luck… let us know how it turned out.

This seems like it might be the best option. There is room there to get a grinder in and cut a notch I I think without disconnecting the bracket or cable.
The current prop is the original McCauley so this might be a McCauley governor. Will dig into it more tomorrow. Going to try a Challenger oil filter to see if it would be shorter than the tempest/champion 110
