121.5 ELT FREE (SOLD)

Recommended Posts

I know this may be just electronic waste at this point, but maybe somebody could use it. It was working fine when removed to upgrade to the 407 ELT. It probably needs a new battery by now. FREE plus shipping.

Where did you mount your antenna for the new ELT?  External or inside the fuselage?

I know a lot people say to install an external antenna, but I'm leaning towards internal when I do mine.  My thought process is that I *hope* if I have an off-field landing I'll be sitting on the wing using my cellphone, handheld or inReach.  But if for some reason I'm only going to be found by the ELT, the odds are that means I rolled, tumbled or in some other way came down hard.  And at that point the antenna is probably toast.

With my internal antenna, I'm hoping there will be an ADS-B track to at least the general vicinity as well as my flipping the ELT once I realize that I out of flight options.  So in flight there should be enough signal to generate an alert.  Once on the ground, even though it may be a weaker signal, it should still be strong enough for S&R once they're in the general vicinity.  In the external scenario with no antenna, you'd basically need to be standing near the plane to actually receive a signal.

The avionics shop mounted it outside.
