RobertGary1 Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 Cfi jumped out of the r-22 and let me go around the pattern a few times. Pictures forthcoming. That puts me at 4 aircraft categories. If it flies I’ll fly it. I’ve flown everything from taildraggers to jets but nothing challenges me as much as that little Robbie. It really has no natural inclination to want to fly. -Robert 15 Quote
Greg Ellis Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 Awesome! I saw a t-shirt that said: Helicopter: thousands of parts rotating rapidly around an oil leak waiting for metal fatigue to set in. Thought that was humorous. 2 2 Quote

Eight8Victor Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 Woohoo! How many other MSers can claim that? I know one @1964-M20E 1 Quote

Clarence I figured out why an r-22 rents for 3 times what a c-150 does. The required airframe overhauls cost 6 figures. Those airframes get stripped down to little bits and rebuilt on schedule. Quote

carusoam Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 Congrats Robert! There is a Robinson Helicopter School on the back side of my hangar…. They have their own small fuel rig right outside… Every time I walk that way…. A defensive voice alarm goes off in my head…. “Avert your eyes! Avert your eyes! Avert your eyes!” Hard to make helicopter friends if you are busy staring at the ground… -a- 1 Quote

RLCarter Posted February 24, 2022 Report Posted February 24, 2022 (edited) Congrats……… Overheard a CFI years ago tell his student “I don’t trust anything where the wings go faster than the fuselage” Edited February 24, 2022 by RLCarter 2 Quote

Most parts on helicopters are time limited and have to be tracked individually. It's a crazy thing. Quote

I know one @1964-M20E I have 200+ hours in helis, and owned an R-44 for awhile. Also fly gliders and SES. I want to get a balloon add-on, but they are especially difficult logistically because of weather and ground crew requirements 2 Quote

squeaky.stow Posted February 25, 2022 Report Posted February 25, 2022 A poem to honor the occasion..... LOW FLIGHT Oh! I have slipped the bonds of common sense And thrashed the skies with blades that ain’t quite wings; Bug-like I’ve climbed, to clear the airport fence By a good two feet,—and done a hundred things You would not care to—wobbled and shook and swung Down in the dusty deafening din. Stuck there, I’ve chased the nearest car along, and lost The race with barely any wind Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue Some jet jock tops the wind-swept heights with easy grace Me, I’m down here where never lark nor even eagle poo— And, while with silent wishing mind I’ve trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and almost lost control. With sincere apologies to Pilot Officer John Gillespie MaGee. RCAF And congratulations! 2 Quote
