As a result there really isn’t any county where it’s legal to make the old style displays. They ran at very high voltage so replacing it with something more modern is more than just swapping the display. I thought they were filled with neon. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted January 9, 2022 Report Posted January 9, 2022 Typical segmented gas discharge displays use neon… with some high voltage generated to make them work… https://www.eeeguide.com/segmented-gas-discharge-displays/ -a- Quote

Alan Fox Posted January 9, 2022 Report Posted January 9, 2022 I sell late model , High serial #rd KX 155s , with 8130s and bench checked in 14 volt , for about 2300 dollars , 28 volt for about 1700 dollars , I generally only sell the later versions , I do not reccomend throwing a lot of money into the early ones , unless , they are the very late ones...... Usually -25 and later .. 2 Quote

That’s unfortunate…I didn’t follow this thread closely, so not sure if anyone mentioned EBay. Even the “as is” items are covered by 30 days satisfaction policySent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
carusoam Posted January 11, 2022 Report Posted January 11, 2022 There are various BK boxes that suffer from having leaking capacitors… Found when trying to get them fixed… Many after 30+ years in service… Some get fixed… -a- Quote

Also they fix garmin boxes as well. Sent both off today, said they are at 5-7 day turnaround depending on if they have parts in stock. 1 Quote
corn_flake Posted January 13, 2022 Author Report Posted January 13, 2022 (edited) In case if any one with bad display. Perhaps this could be a god option? Found them on Google. OLED will probably last forever. Solder 13 wires and you are good to go. Just about any competence electronic technician can get it done under 30 minutes. Any pirep? https://www.kx155display.com/ Edited January 13, 2022 by corn_flake Quote

Will.iam Posted January 13, 2022 Report Posted January 13, 2022 Also no display option for 165 just 155. The 165 you have to get the whole radio. Weird. Quote
corn_flake Posted January 13, 2022 Author Report Posted January 13, 2022 (edited) Have you look at http://www.kx-155.com? That site is weird too. If you call the guy at KX-155, he sounded like he just woke up from a long nap. But, everyone says he does good work. After all, I think they do have to be kinda different if they are willing to work on 1980 technology. Edited January 13, 2022 by corn_flake Quote
hammdo Posted January 13, 2022 Report Posted January 13, 2022 Ed @kx-155 does great work... pm me if you have questions... -Don Quote
Jim Peace Posted January 13, 2022 Report Posted January 13, 2022 reminds me of the thread where the guy was going to replace one nav light with LED and not the other.... Quote
PT20J Posted January 16, 2022 Report Posted January 16, 2022 Mid Continent and Bevan also repair KX-155/165s. I don't see how you could make a viable business only repairing those. Quote
