fantom Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Ocala would probably work. I need some plans to firm up for Saturday first, but I give myself a 90% chance of being there at this point. Please bring Coleen
Hector Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Hope to still make it. Running a bit of a cold and although I feel just fine I have lost my voice COMPLETELY. I was actually going to head out to the airport tomorrow to test my FPI 450 that is scheduled to be installed by noon. I just realized that it may be difficult to fly out of a controlled airport when you can't speak on the radio!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
gregwatts Posted November 29, 2012 Author Report Posted November 29, 2012 My plane is in for annual......raincheck!
Parker_Woodruff Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 I'm hoping this sinus congestion goes away...
flyboy0681 Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 Delay it a week and I'll join you.
fantom Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 Whatever you guys want. If just the two of us, I'm game of you are, Jim.
fantom Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 ALERT....long story, but revised Ocala ETA is 1230
wrbix Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 So, guys...are we talking Cedar Key, where there is nothing, like a meeting room, fuel, good runway, transportation, food joints, or much of anything else; Huh? Just for future reference: http://visitcedarkey.com/cedar-key-restaurants.html and: http://gulfkartcompany.com/ No fuel; runway has been approved for resurfacing in 2013. Meeting room? (scratching head and walking away)
Hector Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Sorry could not make it guys. Actually went to the airport Saturday morning with intention to go but had a blasted cell parked over the airport dumping copious amounts of rain. By the time it moved it was 11:30 but I did not know you had postponed. I did end up going to Cedar Key today for lunch. Judy the taxi driver heard my call and picked me up. Take a look at the pic of the Cessna below. Judy said it was a rental and the pilot landed long and hot, slammed on the brakes when he realized he was going for a swim, blew both mains and departed the runway. I was a little apprehensive during the approach but it was no big deal. Landed with plenty of runway left.
Parker_Woodruff Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Lakeland tower wasn't expecting the level of traffic for the arrival into the BBQ fly-in at Sun 'n Fun, so they wouldn't even let me taxi to the self-serve fuel tank...and especially wouldn't let me depart. Good to see an active fly-in, but disappointed I couldn't go meet up.
sreid Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 What? How can the tower stop you from departing? Did they actually NOTAM close the airport?
flyboy0681 Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 OK. Time to fess up. The reason for the last minute postponement was because, after arriving at my airport, which is an hour and fifteen minutes from my house, I have an extra set in each car's center console, in addition to my flight bag. And just to east my paranoia, I have the ignition and door key taped to a compartment in my wallet. I always feared flying somewhere and losing the keys.
fantom Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 There's a fly-in just for you, flyboy, this weekend, when you're back in town
flyboy0681 Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 There's a fly-in just for you, flyboy, this weekend, when you're back in town You planning to attend?
fantom Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 You planning to attend? Yes, and bringing a friend. What about you?
fantom Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 ....All in all it was a great day and I hope that we are able to do it again soon, perhaps this summer when the days are a bit longer and we can spend a bit more time together and with the planes. Fine synopsis, Jim. We spent over three hours catching up, telling lies, and getting to know each other better. So much so that we had precious little time to show off our respective planes before it started to rain. Till next time.
flyboy0681 Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Yes, and bringing a friend. What about you? I should be making it, with my significant other.
Parker_Woodruff Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 What? How can the tower stop you from departing? Did they actually NOTAM close the airport? ATC response to my taxi request: "It's going to be a long time till we can actually let you move. We weren't prepared for this busy of an arrival. Suggest you shut down, park in the grass, and monitor the radio, if able."
fantom Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 When I was near LAL, ATC said they had "over 50 targets in the immediate vicinity". Must have been great BBQ.
