Rjfanjet Posted November 12, 2021 Report Posted November 12, 2021 Quick question, I'm about to install the regulator. Looking for which colored wire from the plug goes to where on the regulator. My original one is pretty much sealed with the wires going inside the box. Can I take apart the original to see the wires? Thanks 1968 C Quote
Skates97 Posted November 12, 2021 Report Posted November 12, 2021 The instructions that come with the kit aren't the best as far as the wiring goes. There is even some conflicting information from one revision to the next. If you email their support they will get back to you very quickly. I'm assuming that you are putting in the same kit that I used on my D. When I emailed them about the wiring this was their answer. I assume you are using the SAL12-70 generator to alternator conversion kit as it contains the alternator and replacement R1224 voltage regulator. I’ve linked the wiring diagram you would use for this installation. https://planepower.aero/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Troubleshooting-Single-Engine-Externally-Regulated-Alternators.pdf If you have any questions at all I wouldn't hesitate to ask them, they were great to deal with. When I asked about the differences in the wiring diagram he linked and the written instructions he said to follow the wiring diagram and there wouldn't be any issues. Quote
Rjfanjet Posted November 13, 2021 Author Report Posted November 13, 2021 Thanks for the advice. Will send an email with the Mooney part number and pics. Quote
Rjfanjet Posted November 14, 2021 Author Report Posted November 14, 2021 Sent an email and got a quick response. They said to look at the wiring manual for the aircraft. This is what I have. Quote
Rjfanjet Posted December 9, 2021 Author Report Posted December 9, 2021 So, doing more research, the voltage regulator on my C is actually supposed to be used on a J. Somebody Frankensteined the original to this one. Should I just replace the current regulator with the Zeftronics or rewire back to original? Thanks! My mechanic thinks just get the plug and play. 1 Quote

I'm with your mechanic. If he's your IA, treat that as your official answer. Quote
