I think the nose wheel over center preload was insuffuficient. You can see that.  Don Maxwell had some photos at the MAPA convention of some Mooneys landed so hard the shock discs exploded and departed the plane.  The landing gear trusses were bent behind the tire from the force. The nose gear truss was bent backwards where it looks half retracted.  But the gear remained down and locked.

Holy smokes - was anybody else amazed at the group of those folks lifting that plane up like it was nothing?  Logicly speaking, i get that enough people lifting the plane only lift a fraction of the weight, but just the same, it was a pretty incredible spectacle.  


 


Sucks for the pilot though...  Too bad, but it seemed to be a mishap from which you could walk away.

That's still incredible how they all worked together and lifted it up like it was no big deal.

Seems to be a failure of the downlock on the johnson bar itself, since it went back down fine.  if it's worn or sloppy, it can/will fail. Pretty cool to see those folks pick that bird up !!

Thats why I just changed my gear up socket at the last annual. It was probably the original, and was cheaper than have a gear up/collapse inspection done!!
