bnicolette Posted June 13, 2012 Report Posted June 13, 2012 Update: I took my alternator out yesterday (under mechanic supervision of course) and took it to a local shop. It was indeed the cause of my problem. There was an issue with the rotor and a wire had to be soldered back on. I couldn't bring myself to just throw it out so I told him to fix it. $64 later I have a fully functional alternator. I had already ordered the Plane Power unit as my mechanic told me that the alternator that I took off was not a direct replacement as far as he could tell and also a 40A alternator was kind of small for my application. Anybody need a 40A alternator (ALE-8520)? Speak up quick as it will be donated to the local EAA pretty quick. Thanks for all the input as always.
jetdriven Posted June 13, 2012 Report Posted June 13, 2012 Or send the Plane Power back to Spruce and run the 40A. FWIW our prestolite kelley reman was a 60A
